Messianic Jewish churches   A critique of one of the newer movements (denominations) today, messianic Judaism. These are Jews who profess belief in Jesus of Nazareth as the Messiah. Their worship appears to be a combination of Old and New Testament items. They look for a return of Christ, whom they do believe is the messiah, back to the earth in order to reign from Jerusalem. One point made concerns assembling on the SABBATH.

Don’t Call it Easter just “Resurrection Sunday” and Keep the Human Tradition : This article contains a complaint spoken by one who read a newspaper article wherein Lent’s law of fasting is exposed as human tradition, and not the teaching of the New Testament. The article is appears along with her complaint. Most who observe Easter services know nothing about the apostasies in the 2nd Century and what happened from the Period 100 A.D. to 325 A.D. A short view of apostasies from Phillip Schaff’s History of the Christian Church is presented with specific mention of the observance of the so called Christian SABBATH, Pentecost, Passover, Easter, Epiphany and Christmas.

There Is No Such Thing as Sprinkling or Pouring for Baptism  Many members of Christ’s church have come out from human denominations in order to be such. For some, they came to understand that modes of baptism other than that taught in the New Testament are additions to God’s word and do not save. In denominations offering options for baptism “church manuals” override immersion by stating baptism may be administered to believers by sprinkling, pouring or immersion. Many falsely view baptism as a “SACRAMENT” and not what it is, i.e. an initial step of obedience necessary for the forgiveness of sins. This explains why some wait until they have a group they can so baptize. Why not read this article to understand neither of these are authorized as an option for baptism?

Things in Christ not found in Islam  One simple but effective way of explaining the difference between a major “world” religion and the gospel of Christ (the New Testament, Matt. 26:28) is to show the things found “in Christ” that are not found elsewhere. The following are things found in Jesus Christ that are not found in Islam; one these is that God Himself declares Christ's death to be an acceptable SACRIFICE for sin.

"What went you out…to see?" This is a lesson on dress. The study first looks at Jesus' teaching concerning "anxiety" and dress (Matt. 6, the Sermon on the Mount). Following this, application is drawn from the use of "clothing" as a metaphor in warning against false religious teachers (Matt. 7:15).  What it means to present one's self as A LIVING SACRIFICE, holy, acceptable to God (Rom. 12:1-2), is viewed in the light of proper dress and conduct. The kind of conduct that shows respect for oneself, for others, and manifests self control (I Tim. 2:8-9).

Casting Down Eloquence & Sophistry Series (2 Cor. 10:4-5) False teachers are getting away with things warned of in this series. Here are IMPORTANT ASPECTS OF JESUS’ TEACHING DURING HIS MINISTRY:

1. Jesus correctly explained the Law of Moses (cf. Matt. 12:12). A scribe understood and stated that Jesus had rightly explained the greatest commandments of the Law (cf. Mk. 12:28-34).

2. Christ exposed the empty “traditions” (man’s not God’s) of the Scribes, Pharisees and SADDUCEES – religious leaders of His day (cf. Matt.15:1-10; 22:23-33).

3. Some of His teachings contained teaching to be used under the New Covenant that replaced the Old Mosaic Covenant (cf. Mk. 16:15-16; Matt. 18:15-18, 19:3-9; cp. Col. 2:14-17).

4. There is the necessity of identifying when the New Covenant came into effect. Jesus spoke of the church as yet in the future when He said, “I will build My church…” (Matt. 16:18). In giving instruction on His Supper, the fruit of the vine is said to represent His blood of the New Testament (Matt. 26:28). His priesthood necessitated that the law changed from the Old to the New (cf. Heb. 7:12). The apostles preached the New Testament on Pentecost as recorded in Acts 2.

5. No portion of His teaching denies that the judgments of God brought upon the world, as recorded in the Old Testament, were indeed left as warnings for us today! (See Lesson Four). People love the deception in being told that God today just isn’t like that (cf. Rom.16:17). But God will punish the wicked in Hades and eternally in Hell (cf. Lk.16:22-26; Matt. 10:28).

Using The Word “Religion” Correctly : You will hear, “You know there is really no such thing as religion in the Bible.” That’s as false as one saying you can love Jesus but religion is non-essential. Some falsely present Jesus as greater than religion, but the religion He gave is His love, holiness, discipline and just nature. Various scriptural usages of the word “religion” are presented in this article while contrasting false religion with the faith once delivered to the saints (Jude 3). You find references to the Jews’ religion, sects of the Jews (Pharisees & SADDUCEES), and man-made religion after the commandments and doctrines of men i.e. human tradition. Such are contrasted with “pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father” (Ja. 1:27).

You Discriminate! You Hate! ~ “Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended, after they heard this saying?” (Matt. 15:12) What Jesus said that the Pharisees heard in Matt. 15:11 caused them great displeasure, but there was no wrong on Jesus’ part. He exposed the Pharisees’ human tradition by explaining that such does not come from God, but man’s own mind (cf. “but you say” Matt. 15:5). He said their hypocritical worship centered in teaching as doctrine the precepts of mere men (Matt. 15:9). He answered the above question by saying “Every plant, which My Father has not planted, shall be rooted up.” His truthful answer called them “blind leaders of the blind” saying both fall into the pit (Matt. 15:14). His words were the words of the Father; He always did the things that were pleasing to Him (Jo. 6:38, 8:29,14:10). He did not teach that it is wrong to name and describe false religious beliefs. He said concerning their doctrines, “Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the SADDUCEES” (Matt. 16:6). Why? Because both really were blind guides of the blind! They invalidated the Word of God by their traditions bound as doctrine (Matt. 15:6). And just as today – their upholding human tradition brought with it money, prestige and power (Jo. 12:43; Lk. 16:13-15).

Sects, and Sects Among Us   Here is an outline / notes, etc., ON THE SECTS OF THE PHARISEES AND SADDUCEES, as well as application to sects among us today. When speaking of the church Jesus said “I will build My church” (Matt 16:18). It is His church: 1Co 3:10 According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.; 1Co 3:11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.; Eph 2:20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; …the sect of the Pharisees added “more” to God’s word than was written in the Old Testament – today sects add “more” than revealed in the New Testament concerning the church of Christ.

The article contains information on the Sects, Pharisees, Sadducees, Scribes, Lawyers, Jewish Council or Sanhedrin, the Herodians, Human Tradition handed down and bound thus making void the law of God, Heresy is defined, Paul gave up the sect of the Pharisees to be a Christian, problems sects caused to the church in the first century and how they were dealt with, how some think they can Counsel God, Traditions Handed Down today Have a Beginning, Sects Among Us Associated with Human Tradition are Florida College and the Guardian of Truth Foundation, the Arlington Meeting (1968) between some chosen “Institutionalist and Non-Institutionalist” is exposed --- some of both sides being intent on justifying the Human Societies of their own choosing, how the Akin Fund among Non-Institutionalist is used against them at the Arlington Meeting, Emphasis being: “To keep the church as God gave it the society that intrudes into the works He gave the churches must go! All necessary correction (restoration) must be made back to the New Testament scriptural pattern for Christ’s church.”

9-11-2001 ~ Things I can Count on Today   America was attacked by terrorists on this date. This is a “time” when people thrive upon inappropriate statements, and misleading applications of God’s Word. Illustrations of such would be, “Nostradamas said…,” “Armageddon has come,” “the Mark of the Beast.” An important part of this study shows when men have questions as to "Why?" or "What is the future?" that Christians have a limited number of precious things that they can depend upon. These few but precious things are where a Christian's life really is any day, and any place that they might be. One of these is the New Testament emphasis we are spiritually SAFE (SAFETY) in Christ (Luke 21:16-19). Several points are made to show that through perseverance and patience we gain eternal life.

At This Point In My Life…. Warnings concerning brethren not desiring sound doctrine, as well as commands to speak the things concerning sound doctrine are easily found throughout the epistles (2 Tim. 4:3; Titus 1:9, 2:1). Looking back institutional error can be much more serious than one might think when participating. We see the inability to believe that apostasies affect one’s eternal destiny. God requires an account of what is past. We need to gather up those passages on remembrance, reminding, and how putting in remembrance is a SAFE thing for all.

Covid Restrictions ~ Just Safety or Persecution Included   SAFETY  The CORONA VIRUS ~ COVID19 RESTRICTIONS Just what kind of “push” did you expect from the ungodly and unbelieving to make? Get the preachers out of the way – make them turn from the rightful order of things – let’s not hear about God and His law.

God’s Divine Organization ~ The Local Church, Part Two of Two   This is Lesson Four (Part Two of Two) in our Series: "Fundamental Lessons on the Church." Lesson Four, Part Two: "God's Divine Organization ~ The Local Church, Part Two of Two." In this lesson you will be studying the local church as the organization that God gave for the collective work of Christians in evangelism, edification, worship and benevolence to needy saints. You will take an in depth look at the organization of the local church according to God's pattern in the New Testament. You can read about how Christians in the local church at Philippi were called "SAINTS." The word obviously does not refer to one who has been dead for a long time, who then must go through a rigorous rite of passage contrived by mere "men" in order to be pronounced a "saint" long after they have died!

The Bible Does not Teach Praying to Animals  Amazingly during the celebration of the “blessing of animals” this year one church, not Catholic, offered this opportunity: “In addition to the blessing, all present can offer special prayers to the animal friends who have died. Each person may name the pet.” At least this what appeared in the newspaper article promoting this event. Read this article and you will notice several strange and divergent views that some hold concerning animals as part of God’s creation. Other scriptural points made are: 1. Living members of the church at Philippi were called “SAINTS” in the first century church (read Phil. 1:1). The New Testament knows nothing of the elaborate process that Catholicism practices in making one a so called “saint” such as St. Francis of Assisi, and then honoring them. 2. Human myths and traditions when practiced and believed as one’s religion make void the commands of God (read Matt. 15:3-8; Col. 2:8; I Tim. 1:3-4, 6:4). 3. Titles such as Rabbi, Father, Master, Reverend, etc. are man’s credentials given by the human institutions men build that bestow them. They simply have no place in Christ’s church – read Matt. 23:8-10.

The Beginning Point Leading To Salvation  This article should help anyone today who has come to realize that the variety of explanations offered today due to diverse human philosophies and beliefs have left many frustrated concerning the important matter of SALVATION. The Pentecostal Experience, Adults Baptizing Infants, and Professing Belief without Required Obedience are examined in the light of God's word and found wanting! If you will take your Bible and read each scripture in this brief study it will enable you to be honest with yourself (see Acts 17:11) about your own salvation. Moreover, it will help prevent the all too common occurrence of many misleading others by that with which they were lead astray themselves.

Who Can Forgive Sins But God Alone?  The various accounts of Jesus’ power to forgive sins during His personal ministry testified to Him being God. He forgave sins for both men and women. In Matt. 9:1-8 when Jesus healed the paralytic He wanted them to know that the Son of Man had authority to forgive sins. The simple point is He had the authority do so because He was God. We must accept that and keep it in the “time” period in which it occurred. This article explains the purpose of John’s baptism, as well as the forgiveness and SALVATION of the thief who was crucified with Jesus (Lk. 23:43). The Lord said that He came to seek and to save the lost (Lk. 19:10). Thus He forgave sins as one of the blessings of His presence among men.

Various Errors Concerning Salvation:  Often times the problem is not one’s sincerity but “what” one has been taught. Today much emphasis is put on “belief” (just as long as one is sincere) rather than the necessity of the Truth being believed; many push “sincerity” is good enough regardless of what is believed. They say believing (whatever) is the important thing. This is wrong. Why not read these articles with this in mind? Then ask what does the New Testament really teaching concerning initial SALVATION? Articles included: 1. The So Called “Sinner’s Prayer” (Jan. 31, 2015); 2. A Wrongful Understanding of Confessing Sins (Feb. 28, 23015); 3. One Must Confess Jesus is the Christ the Son of God (Mar. 28, 2015); 4. There Is No Such Thing as “Infant Baptism” (April 25, 2015); 5. There Is No Such Thing as the “Altar Call” (May 30, 2015).

Aliens and National Ignorance: The concerns of space aliens and extraterrestrial activity in recent balloon intercepts, present A TOTALLY WRONG PERSPECTIVE OF THE EARTH, LIFE HERE, AND MANKIND HAVING BEEN GIVEN THE EARTH AS A DWELLING PLACE (Gen. 1:26; Ps. 115:16). There are no space aliens! PEOPLE NEED TO PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT IS WORKING HERE FOR MAN’S SPIRITUAL BENEFIT AND SALVATION! What is working here on earth, GOD’S PLAN OF SALVATION FROM ETERNITY THROUGH CHRIST, Eph 1:4, is attacked and mocked (Eph 1:4; I Cor 1:18-25; 2 Pet 3: 3-4).

Loving Israel for the Wrong Reasons The history of Israel goes back to God’s promise of Christ through Abraham’s seed (Gen 12:1-3). It was through Christ, Abraham’s seed, that all nations (all men everywhere) would have the offer of salvation (Gal 3:26-29). When you study the salvation of Jews or Gentiles the New Testament points to their baptisms into Christ for the remission of their sins (Mk 16:15-16; Gal 3:26-29). Read this article and you will see the difference between contending for political and national interests, and contending for SALVATION offered through Christ for all men.

In The House of Public Issues Here is information on the National Cathedral in D.C. hosting SAME-SEX nuptials. Thus you find a present example of the fallacy of human conventions making man made laws and binding them on their church. Such displays how corrupt churches really are! This includes a brief history of the Episcopal Church and it progression into gay marriage.

Sects, and Sects Among Us : here is an outline / notes, etc., on the sects of the Pharisees and Sadducees, as well as application to sects among us today.

The article contains information on the Sects, Pharisees, Sadducees, Scribes, Lawyers, JEWISH COUNCIL or SANHEDRIN, the Herodians, Human Tradition handed down and bound making thus making void the law of God, Heresy is defined, Paul gave up the sect of the Pharisees to be a Christian, problems sects caused to the church in the first century and how they were dealt with, how some think they can Counsel God, Traditions Handed Down today Have a Beginning, Sects Among Us Associated with Human Tradition are Florida College and the Guardian of Truth Foundation, the Arlington Meeting (1968) between some chosen “Institutionalist and Non-Institutionalist” is exposed --- some of both sides being intent on justifying the Human Societies of their own choosing, how the Akin Fund among Non-Institutionalist is used against them at the Arlington Meeting, Emphasis being: “To keep the church as God gave it the society that intrudes into the works He gave the churches must go! All necessary correction (restoration) must be made back to the New Testament scriptural pattern for Christ’s church.”

Getting Smart with God (Sarcasm) : Many people, including some in the church, think that all uses of SARCASM are simply wrong and belong in the category of improper speech. Just like “satire” which is often humorous ridicule that conveys a rebuke or criticism, likewise “SARCASM” can be used to expose folly and vice. Brethren it is not wrong to expose folly to ridicule! The rightful use of sarcasm is presented in this lesson.

Reply to a response on "Questions on Witchcraft"   A respondent has present the idea that there was race upon earth who did not have Adam and Eve for their genealogy. She claims to be of this so called "other people." The reply shows how her claim doesn't fit with the scriptures in the Bible. She claims SATAN is a Christian ideal and not theirs. The reply shows that man has known Satan since the beginning of time. He is a real spiritual being! There are but two kingdoms spiritually: the kingdom of Christ and the kingdom of Satan.

Things in Christ not found in Islam One simple but effective way of explaining the difference between a major “world” religion and the gospel of Christ (the New Testament, Matt. 26:28) is to show the things found “in Christ” that are not found elsewhere.  One point developed is that Jesus through His death and resurrection destroyed SATAN'S power over death (Heb. 2:14; I Cor. 15:56-57).

The Appreciation Of Godly Sisters In Christ The tremendous value of our sisters in Christ is set forth in this article. Beginning with the honor that is due to faithful women in Christ, the study sets forth the various duties enjoined upon them in regards to their family and service rendered to the church that Christ built. They are to be ready unto every good work (Eph. 2:10, I Tim. 5:10, Titus 3:1, 2:14). We are all to stay ready unto every good work (Titus 3:1). Consider by contrast that some whom Paul referred to had given themselves to wanton pleasure and were dead while they lived; in their sensual desires they had cast off the faith and turned aside after SATAN (I Tim. 5). Why not study the nine points of application directed towards their being scripturally appreciated?

You Were Pagans Carried Away Unto Dumb Idols (I Cor. 12:2) Many are simply not aware of the various “other” designations for the Gentiles – such as “pagans,” “heathens,” “infidels” and “unbelievers.” This is especially true when some of these refer to idolaters. The world is divided into two divisions: Christians and the whole world that lies in the power of the evil one, SATAN (I Jo. 5:19). Notice the emphasis given to one either being “in Christ” or “without” i.e. “outside” of Christ (Col. 4:5).

God, man, the world; Satan, man and the course of this world (PART ONE OF TWO) Emphasis is upon God the creator of the earth, man, the universe and all material things --- by using various definitions of “world” or “age” SATAN, THE DEVIL, is presented as “the god of this world” who blinds the  minds of the unbelieving. The Devil rules the thoughts and deeds of the men of our own age. Get the Devil in your conversations!

The wise according to human wisdom and philosophy, the scribe i.e. professional who writes and speaks to the detriment of God’s word and wisdom, as well as the debater i.e. learned disputant --- these offer elaborate and devious arguments in this “age” we live in as they serve the Devil. Their message is full of deceit and error and hostile to God and His Word.

God, man, the world; Satan, man and the course of this world (Part Two) Here in PART TWO there is continued focus upon the work of the Devil with emphasis upon Christ, the church and the Devil’s work. Things done to resist the Devil are stated along with examples of Satan’s influences in the church. What will happen to the Devil and those who follow him points to the necessity of one obeying in baptism to be saved (Mk. 16:15-16).

WHAT IS WORKING HERE TO DESTROY SOULS IS IGNORED, OR IF IT IS SATAN AND THE SPIRITUAL HOST OF WICKEDNESS IT IS A MYTH. The Devil and the spiritual host of wickedness (not flesh and blood) working here to destroy souls, is considered by most to be a myth (Ja 4:7; I Pet. 5:8; Eph. 6:10-13).

Has Someone Pulled The Plug From Your Life? Read this article if you are concerned for those, possibly yourself, who never understand how to find SATISFACTION (Happiness) in life.

Things in Christ not found in Islam One simple but effective way of explaining the difference between a major “world” religion and the gospel of Christ (the New Testament, Matt. 26:28) is to show the things found “in Christ” that are not found elsewhere. The following are things found in Jesus Christ that are not found in Islam; one these being that Jesus' blood SATISFIES the penalty for sin.

Bible Endings For Torn Relationships  Five important Bible relationships are presented while giving emphasis to the importance of entreaty and reconciliation. The relationships discussed in this article include Cain & Abel, Esau & Jacob, SAUL & David, Paul & Barnabas and Euodia & Syntyche. Stated goals for entreating are: 1. To be of the same mind, Phil. 2:2; 2. To be at peace, I Th. 5:13; 3. To understand the outcome of dissension. It strengthens the enemy of the gospel; the weak when pulled in to dissensions are caused to stumble; 4. To repent and return to the work, Rev. 3:19-20; 5. To use entreaty with older men, I Tim. 5:1; 6. To implement with God's wisdom which is easy to be entreated, Ja. 3:17-18. Thus one is to be both approachable and easily persuaded to do that which is right.

A Study On Mercy A fourfold distinction is presented concerning God’s great mercy: (1) The General Mercy of God to his creation and creatures; (2) We Are Saved By God’s Mercy; (3) There Is A Mercy For Those who Have been Saved; (4) Mercy As Practiced By the Saved. The great danger is that man, for the most part, chooses to presume upon God’s mercy to the neglect of meeting the conditions that He laid down as necessary in obedience to the Gospel that they might be saved!

The Majority Know Another Jesus The church at Corinth gladly tolerated fools who taught another Jesus and different gospel, Paul said (cf. 2 Cor. 11:4, 19).  It is possible for one to read the literature of fools and possess a completely false view of Jesus. Read the Gospels for yourself and see what He really did do and teach. Applications from the Gospels show the stark differences between what most think Jesus taught and what He really did teach! An example: (8) Quit SAYING YOU UNDERSTAND Christ’s word when you don’t accept and do it when you hear it…

For the Naïve, Scoffers and Fools  In Proverbs 1 “Wisdom” shouts publicly to all including the simple minded (naïve), SCORNERS i.e. scoffers and fools. The three are grouped and belong together, God says. Religious and scriptural applications are made with propaganda techniques. God doesn’t Name Call. If God says someone or some group is stupid then they are stupid! God does not use Glittering Generalities. He did not choose words and phrases with always favorable implications! God does not use the Plain Folks approach. God is not just one of us! God used “true” Guilt By Association. God did not use the Band Wagon. Accepting God’s law and obeying it will not put you in the majority!

What it means to present one's self as a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God (Rom. 12:1-2) is viewed in the light of proper dress and conduct. The kind of conduct that shows respect for oneself, for others, and manifests one's self control (I Tim. 2:8-9).

A Simple Biblical Pattern For Explaining “Why?”  A respondent who questioned the matter of judging those who live together without marriage stated, “I think these days it can be a good thing to live together before getting married....  This obviously goes against your feelings, but they're just your feelings, not everyone's." Last of all she stated, "As far as your last sentence, it's not an idea that it's acceptable and normal, these days, IT IS acceptable and normal.... If you don't like it, then don't do it.... I wouldn't criticize you...why do you judge about people who choose to live together?"
This individual wants to know “why” I would determine that people who choose to live together are wrong in doing so. I presumed this to be an honest question deserving of an answer.

In part one must understand that following a desire to know God's will as one reads the Bible they must learn to make the proper applications. Proper application necessitate distinguishing between what is "right" and what is "wrong." The SCRIPTURES provide instruction and correction so each may “thoroughly equipped for every GOOD work” (2 Tim. 3:16-17). “Instruction” in the Word plainly states that fornication as described above is a work of the flesh that leads to eternal destruction if not repented of (I Cor. 6:9; Gal. 5:19-21).

How Can One Understand the Word of God? (A Brief Study of Scriptural Authority)  Most churches never speak out on the necessity of having “SCRIPTURAL AUTHORITY” for what one believes and practices. In fact, most are not willing to deal with the subject because of the lack of authority for things they are doing. Here is a brief study on how to establish scriptural authority by using STATEMENTS, Commands, Examples, and Necessary Inferences found in the Word of God. Each person is expected to read and understand God’s Word, just the same as if someone gave them an important set of instruction dealing with their work, or health to read for their benefit.

Aids & Additions (Expediencies Reviewed)  Most churches never speak out on the necessity of having “SCRIPTURAL AUTHORITY” for what one believes and practices. It is important to know the difference between “aids” (expediencies) used to carry out what is authorized versus “additions” which are things not authorized. This lesson should help with that distinction.

Why Churches Fear Applying “Scriptural Authority” ~ Selected Newspaper Articles Concerning “SCRIPTURAL AUTHORITY.” Local churches of Christ must continue to be the pillar and support of the truth. These three articles relate to the fear manifested by church leaders who use human wisdom, emotions and lies; whose goals are power, prestige, pleasing self and material gain. Members themselves love their false position that allows them to fulfill their own lusts. These show how secular institutions influenced by Political Correctness have become protectors and enforcers for those who despise God’s Word, thus displaying a lack of respect for “religious” freedom of speech!

Surely Fair is Unacceptable ~ “All” Works of the Flesh are Sinful! Concerning SCRIPTURAL AUTHORITY. One aspect of “religious freedom of speech” is the right to name specific immoralities (works of the flesh) as well as oppose the teachings of other religions (cf. Matt. 15:12-14). Much is said today in defense of practicing homosexuality as if none have the right to say religiously that it is sinful conduct. However, true Christians believe and teach that “all” works of the flesh identified in the New Testament are sinful and that includes practicing homosexuality (Cf. Rom. 1:24-32; I Cor. 6:9-10; Gal. 5:19-21).

The Way of Integrity Psalms 119 This Psalm is often avoided because of its length. This study begins with eight points on integrity with God. Follow these application is made from each of the remaining sections. You will note that our inconsistencies are often our reproach in life. And that there is boldness in serving God when there are no inconsistencies. Understand that it is on the grounds of your integrity that you may plead to God for protective care against the wicked (Ps. 119:121-128). He did not want to wander from God therefore the SCRIPTURES would be his counselors (lit., the men of his counsel) to establish his ways. These are but a few of the good lesson presented through studying this Psalm.

The Quran On Jesus (Series)  This series presents the basic teachings about the SECOND COMING of CHRIST, the Resurrection Day, the Judgment Day and the End of the World.  You will often hear that Islam honors all prophets, including Jesus. Just what “kind” of honor does Islam give to the Lord Jesus Christ? It is certainly not that they believe in His deity because they do not. The truth is Islam repeatedly denies that Jesus is God. Islam also denies the basic tenants of the New Testament teaching about Jesus and salvation. How do you supposedly honor Him when the honor you give to Him is the dishonor of saying He was not who He said He was? Why not follow this series and see the many truths that Islam denies about Jesus that the New Testament teaches and Christians believe.

Selected Newspaper Articles from 2017 These four newspaper articles include: (1) Surely All the Men’s Fault ~ So Called “Forced Heterosexuality”; (2) Surely Empowerment and Courage ~ Abortion; (3) Surely the Ends of the World ~ But Don’t Quit Your Job! This brief article uses 2 Pet. 3:10 to show the folly of the end of the world predictions for 2017. Remember all the hype over the Black Moon in August? And now you know it doesn’t fulfill bible prophecy connected with the SECOND COMING OF CHRIST. A hoard of speculation falsely used Rev. 12:1-2 and even along with rank “astrology” tossed in. No sooner does one predictor make a fool of himself than another chimes in. With a zoom here comes asteroid 2012 TC4 on Oct. 12, 2017. Scriptures used are out of context, and most of them erringly use scriptures from the Gospels relating to the signs portending the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 A.D. by Titus. And just what could motive be other than notoriety and monetary gain?; (4) Surely Not the Time for Two Drinking Parties ~ Christmas & New Years.

God Turns The Way Of The Wicked Upside Down  This lesson considers the path of the wicked that is a familiar topic throughout the Psalms. You will learn about the wicked by the following: (1) God thwarts the way of the wicked (Ps. 146:9); (2) God puts the wicked in great fear (Ps. 53); (3) Accusers are filled with their own ways (Ps. 109). This section tells you exactly what will happen to the wicked; (4) You will learn about the purpose of their traps they set for the righteous; (5) God overthrows the best of SECRET COUNSEL (Ps. 64). They shoot from “concealment” (in SECRET) and without fear of God but only for a while, Ps. 64:2-4.

About the Label “Advertisement” On Our Articles  I’m often asked why there is a label of “advertisement” at the bottom of the Church’s articles. They’ll often say, “No one else’s does, why yours?” The newspaper places it there. Consider this: While the designation is accurate, for our articles tell people about the church of Christ, it is obvious that the content is what we are seeking to get forward (Cf. 1 Tim. 3:15). There should be a distinct difference in what a church of Christ presents to the community, and that of the various false religions. By refusing the often sought “marketing approach” the Truth becomes apparent. It is the Truth that is important in contrast to sin and religious error. Included is an exposure of the often used “Try Us And You’ll Like Us” pitch.

The only kind of assembly of a local church that is worth a dime is the kind Paul recommended to Corinth in I Cor. 14:24-25). Here the visitor is convicted by all who give instruction in God’s word (I Cor. 14:24). In other words, based upon scriptural instruction and application by the teachers the person is actually told where their sins are leading them — they receive a rebuke even though just visiting. And often the instructor doesn’t even know them, imagine that! The SECRETS of the heart are made manifest to himself by the Word being taught (I Cor. 14:24). Those who go a lifetime playing “games” — thinking that they have escaped the eyes of God — are greatly deceived (Heb. 4:12-13).

Here the visitor did not jump up and leave. He stayed for he had found the truth of God’s Word (I Cor. 14:24). When visitors are looking to please “self” rather than God then you’ll often see them get up and march out. Those who hate the Light aren’t comfortable around applicable teaching. It isn’t that the church is not friendly; this is what Jesus said about those who love darkness rather than light because their deeds are evil (Jo. 3:19-20).

You find references to the Jews’ religion, SECTS of the Jews, and man-made religion after the commandments and doctrines of men. Such are contrasted with “pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father” (Ja. 1:27).

Sects, and Sects Among Us : Here is an outline / notes, etc., on THE SECTS OF THE PHARISEES AND SADDUCEES, as well as application to SECTS AMONG US TODAY.

Why Churches Fear Applying “Scriptural Authority” ~ Selected Newspaper Articles   SECULAR INSTITUTIONS influenced by Political Correctness have become protectors and enforcers for those who despise God’s Word, thus displaying a lack of respect for “religious” freedom of speech! The use of Scriptural authority (God’s word not man’s, 2 Tim. 3:16-17) brings into light those who hate the application of His Word. Jesus spoke of those who hated His word, thus Himself, stating they’d also hate those who apply His word (cf. Jo. 3:19-20; 15:18-20).

The Quran On Jesus (Series)  This series presents the SEED PROMISE as basic teaching about Jesus all people need to hear (Gal. 3:16). You will often hear that Islam honors all prophets, including Jesus. Just what “kind” of honor does Islam give to the Lord Jesus Christ? It is certainly not that they believe in His deity because they do not. The truth is Islam repeatedly denies that Jesus is God.       How Will God Feel About You When You Ask Him For Help? This article deals with those times when men SEEK God’s help. Do you know someone who is in trouble and needs God’s help? In this brief study the scriptures are related to three important questions dealing with those times when we need, desire, and ask for God’s help: (1) When you want God’s help how fast do you want Him there? (2) When we need Him to deliver us how far do we want Him from us? (3) How do you want God to feel about you when you ask Him to help you?

Selected Newspaper Articles From The Valley Church of Christ  Simply stated, the church has the responsibility to be the pillar and support of the truth as revealed in the New Testament, Paul said (I Tim. 3:15). This involves presenting “the whole counsel of God” (Acts 20:27). Thus there will be no holding back in order to impress and attract visitors. It should never be as one explained in saying that the district had sent their church notice not to teach on divorce, for that would keep them from being “SEEKER FRIENDLY.” Why not read “Holding Back Truth To Be A ‘Seeker Friendly’ Church”?

Why Churches Fear Applying “Scriptural Authority” ~ Selected Newspaper Articles  Concerning “Scriptural Authority.” Local churches of Christ must continue to be the pillar and support of the truth. These three articles relate to the fear manifested by church leaders who use human wisdom, emotions and lies. Their goals are power, prestige, PLEASING SELF and material gain. Members themselves love their false position that allows them to fulfill their own lusts. These show how secular institutions influenced by Political Correctness have become protectors and enforcers for those who despise God’s Word, thus displaying a lack of respect for “religious” freedom of speech!

"What went you out…to see?"  This is a lesson on dress and modesty-- emphasizing one's SELF CONTROL. What it means to present one's self as a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God (Rom. 12:1-2), is viewed in the light of proper dress and conduct. The kind of conduct that shows respect for oneself, for others, and manifests one's modesty and self-control (I Tim. 2:8-9).

Rule of Law Points From the authority implied in the “name” of Jesus Christ, who has all authority, several points are made concerning the Gospel as the power of God unto salvation for all men, Jesus’ authority to judge by His law, Sin as a violation of Christ’s law and how His law convicts of sin. Major emphasis is also given to the RULE OF LAW of law being attacked by ignorance, wrongful intent, good intentions, sincerity, carelessness, ignoring, impulse and inconsistency, showing partiality, outright defiance, distortion of one’s words and partial narratives of the Word (to neglect to teach the whole counsel of God, Acts 20:27, 32.). Applications include God is no respecter of persons, to show respect of persons is sin, the kind of judgment that condemns ONE’S SELF, and the one who boasts in God’s law but dishonors God through breaking the law.

What To Tell Your Mate When They Are Guilty of Wrath Christians need to study and then be honest and make the right applications to one another, all family members, and especially with their own mates (Cf. I Th. 5:14). Some must be told about their rage against faithful preachers and teachers when the truth hits their pocket books! They are “SELFISHLY AMBITIOUS” when they refuse to obey the precepts concerning giving, grudges and strife!

Selected Newspaper Articles  Advertising for many churches tends to follow the current trend for advertizing in general and has an emotional “pitch” to possibly interest the reader. The intent of these articles is that each shows a love for and desire to present the Truth without incorporating the emotional flavor so popular with other religious bodies today. The topics are: “The Buyer Is Like The SELLER; The Creditor Is Like The Debtor” (What God’s word says about liars, cheats and murderers applies to all – the rich and poor!); “Wicked Kids, Teens, Beating & Stomping Others” (This exposes the lie, “Oh they’re just too young to know better!”); “Some Wrights Are So Wrong” (When so called “Pastors” are asked if John 14:6 is true and if they think Islam is another way to salvation, and then suggest that there is another path to the Father they deny what Jesus and the apostles taught (cf. John 12:48).

Consider by contrast that some whom Paul referred to had given themselves to wanton pleasure and were dead while they lived. In their SENSUAL DESIRES they had cast off the faith and turned aside after Satan (I Tim. 5). Why not study the nine points of application directed towards their being scripturally appreciated?

Various Newspaper Articles Selected from 2020 This selection includes: (1) “A Win for Women” concerning the argument that sex refers to biological sex and does not include “gender identity”; (2) “Worry About Your Soul Today!” is a simple imploration for one to pause and consider the value of their soul and its eternal well being after this life on earth, and that along with needed warnings and examples – one of which is a real person who did not do such; (3) “Afraid Of Dying? Losing All?” again implores one to pause and consider their soul’s value in light of THE IMPOSSIBILITY OF TRYING TO SERVE GOD AND MAMMON (Lk. 16:13).

"What went you out…to see?"  This is a lesson on dress and modesty-- emphasizing one's self control. What it means to present one's self as a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God which is one’s reasonable SERVICE (Rom. 12:1-2), is viewed in the light of proper dress and conduct. The kind of conduct that shows respect for oneself, for others, and manifests one's modesty and self-control (I Tim. 2:8-9).

Memory #2  You may desire to read “Memory #1” for April 2016 before this continuing article concerning some simple applications pertaining to one’s memory. Emphasis in this article is given to the importance of our remembering our own past conduct. Paul did not exclude himself when speaking of past conduct before his conversion – stating plainly that he acted ignorantly as a blasphemer, persecutor and violent aggressor (“injurious”) against the church. He included himself in being foolish, disobedient, deceived, SERVING divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another (Titus 3:3). There is also the importance of our not forgetting even one of God’s benefits of salvation in Christ. Once restored one must not revert back--- thus once again forgetting the necessary obedience for salvation in Christ.

An Example of going beyond Local Church Organization – The Seventh-day Adventists  Here is a comparison of Christ’s church as set forth in the New Testament and the SEVENTH-DAY ADVENTISTS.  As you read this you will see important points on “how” false religions get started. There is a vast difference in stating that we must go back to the New Testament patterns for the organization and worship of Christ's church He built, and the establishment of a denomination upon false visions and leaders falsely claiming the gift of prophecy (I Cor. 13:8). New Testament authority for what is practiced is sorely lacking today!

False Doctrines on the State of Man After Death Corrected by the Scriptures Some religions believe that one ceases to exist after death and before the Day of Judgment. The SEVENTH-DAY ADVENTISTS’ belief is stated here to illustrate. Then compare Scriptural After-Death Scenarios such as the Transfiguration of Jesus and those present; the after death conversation with Abraham who is with Lazarus. This study relates to scriptures showing that death cannot separate the faithful from the love of Christ and that one does “not” cease to exist after death and before the Judgment Day.

How a Lesson on Humility Became a “Church Ordinance”  Jesus did wash His disciples’ feet and the lesson explained in that context is that they must serve one another. However Ellen G. White, a supposed prophetess of the SEVENTH-DAY ADVENTIST Church, takes it upon herself to teach that the Lord’s Supper is to be preceded by a “foot washing” as a church ordinance. This lesson should help one to understand the difference between individual obligations and the “collective” works God gave for the local church as a functioning body or organization.

After Baptism, Then What?  New Christians must consider the SEVERITY of GOD. The material offers appropriate encouragement and warnings for those recently baptized for the remission of their sins.

So Called “Sex Change” & “Transgender” Read this article and understand that so called “SEX CHANGE” is actually genital mutilation. One who has undergone such tells what it actually is. Also notice here how those who have allowed the physicians, therapists and psychologists to talk them into such have turned to mock them, as well as the social hype that is promoting this today. Consider carefully the point here that some would saturate children with this nonsense – even beginning in grade school – telling them they’ll decided later what gender they want to choose.

The Transgender Attack This contains two newspaper articles: 1. Surely Not Shameless ~ The Transgender Directive; 2. Surely Not Living a Lie ~ The Transgender Directive. These present both the spiritual and physical dangers tied to the recent “I think I identify with transgender” decree from President Obama. This is moving quickly in our society and especially so when the media’s bias is presenting the kind of things that promote LGBT (Lesbian, Gay *Homosexual, Bi-sexual, Trans-sexual).

Key points include scriptures on: evil thoughts, evil desire, lewdness, shameless behavior, uncleanness, motives, the mind and depraved passions, the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience, walked in immoralities, lived in immoralities, despise wickedness and immorality, to lie against the truth about the TWO SEXES (male and female – man and woman).

“Thank you for the strong words.” The title is also a quotation from a visitor. She said, “I want you to know it is good to hear strong words used. Back home we don’t get that.” The thing that bothers too many brethren today, and it sadly lacking because of that, is proper application to the brotherhood, the local church, other local churches, and individual lives. She made some good “application” herself – a wonderfully strong statement concerning a member who isn’t coming. In no way did she indicate that it was otherwise and that she just could not attend at all. She said they had a member who says she’s sick, but sets at home and watches that “dribble” from the fake T.V. evangelists on healing, and then when we admonish her we’re not loving enough and too hard.” Sound familiar?

“Her statement reminded me of the condition among the seven churches of Asia Minor (Rev. 2-4). There was no regional or district headquarters for churches of Christ had no such thing! Each church was responsible for its own work. But the Lord emphasized that close attention must be paid to what He said about the condition in each of these as a lesson for all. And what do we find? We find five of the seven with errors that must be corrected. In some of these five we find a “repetition” of idolatry and SEXUAL immoralities. One has a reputation they have built that says they are “alive”, but the Lord said “but you are dead.” That kind of reputation is built upon lies and depends upon sympathetic men pleasures “outside” the membership who help them promote it. Then there’s the church that was rich materially — they’d worked hard and over the years had become wealthy — being blind spiritually and full every kind of immorality they did not know they were wretched, miserable, poor, blind and naked!

So brethren “Everybody’s doing it!” didn’t fly with the Lord in these churches. And what is the “general” condition of the churches in the region you live in? Where you come from?”

Unwise Unsuspiciousness (Jer. 40:14)  This is based upon Gedaliah’s mistake as recorded by Jeremiah. We see stupidity in being indignant towards and informant who trying to help and accusing him of lying (Lies). “You liar!” You will often hear that when the evidence points to something one doesn’t want to believe. He should have listened. This also includes events in the family of David when Amnon rapes Tamar, and Absalom seeks to kill Amnon. Ungodly friends will support improper SEXUAL THOUGHTS, and help another fulfill them. A cousin is the facilitator – beware of wicked cousins.

A Consideration of I Cor. 14:34-35   Women’s conduct in both learning and teaching. The role of women in the church is of such a nature that they are to learn in quietness with all submission. They must not teach, nor usurp authority the man, but be in quietness (I Tim. 2:11-12).The necessity of this role prompted the following statement to the church at Corinth: "Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law.  And if they will learn anything, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a SHAME for women to speak in the church" (I Cor. 14:34-35).

God Turns The Way Of The Wicked Upside Down   This lesson considers the path of the wicked that is a familiar topic throughout the Psalms. You will learn about the wicked by the following: (1) God thwarts the way of the wicked (Ps. 146:9); (2) God puts the wicked in great fear because He despises them! (Ps. 53; Lev. 26:14-33); (3) Accusers are filled with their own ways (Ps. 109). This section tells you exactly what will happen to the wicked. God clothes the wicked with SHAME and dishonor! (4) You will learn about the purpose of their traps they set for the righteous; (5) God overthrows the best of secret counsel (Ps. 64). He fills their faces with SHAME, that they might seek Him! Some can be brought to the Lord by the defeat of their own wicked schemes and the attendant shame; those who are not brought will be put to shame, and pereish in their shame (Ps. 83:16-18).

Key points include scriptures on: evil thoughts, evil desire, lewdness, SHAMELESS behavior, uncleanness, motives, the mind and depraved passions, wrath of God upon the children of disobedience, walked in immoralities, lived in immoralities, despise wickedness and immorality.

Memory #3 of 3 This is the third portion of a brief series on “Memory” (April, May and June 2016). This article’s emphasis is on not using memory to prevent spiritual danger and destruction, letting greed overpower remembering God’s presence in times past, using memory to correct one’s life and the necessity of being reminded to be ready for every good work. God’s people are to maintain good works for necessary uses (to meet urgent needs), that they be not unfruitful (Titus 3:14). When you “forget” you neglect brethren in dire circumstances and no longer care for them spiritually in prayer, or materially. Thus we are admonished “to do good, and to communicate (sharing) forget not” (Heb. 13:16). When brethren are SHARING things are good for all who are worthy, and there’s no reason for any member to be overly anxious about material things.

Selected Newspaper Articles Dear reader the following titles are selected newspaper articles that appeared in our local newspaper the Yuma Sun. Advertizing for many churches tends to follow the current trend for advertizing in general and has an emotional “pitch” to possibly interest the reader. The intent of these articles is that each shows a love for and desire to present the Truth without incorporating the emotional flavor so popular with other religious bodies today. The topics are: “The Buyer Is Like The Seller; The Creditor Is Like The Debtor” (What God’s word says about liars, cheats and murderers applies to all – the rich and poor!); “Wicked Kids, Teens, Beating & Stomping Others” (This exposes the lie, “Oh they’re just too young to know better!”); “Some Wrights Are So Wrong” When so called “Pastors” are asked if John 14:6 is true and if they think Islam is another way to salvation, and then suggest that there is another path to the Father they deny what Jesus and the apostles taught! (cf. John 12:48). That different cultures see differently thus this truth (John 14:6) must of necessity be set aside is a lie! (cf. Gal. 3:26-29). The Gentiles in Gal. 3:26-29 illustrates Jesus’ statement on “OTHER SHEEP I HAVE” in John 10:16! Christ is the only way to the Father (Jo. 14:6).

God's Divine Organization ~ The Local Church, Part Two of Two   This is Lesson Four (Part Two of Two) in our Series: "Fundamental Lessons on the Church." Lesson Four, Part Two: "God's Divine Organization ~ The Local Church, Part Two of Two." In this lesson you will be studying the local church as the organization that God gave for the collective work of Christians in evangelism, edification, worship and benevolence to needy saints. You will take an in depth look at the organization of the local church according to God's pattern in the New Testament. There is abundant material on the fact that each local church had its own SHEPHERDS as pastors who were also called elders, bishops and overseers.  The qualifications for a man who serves as a bishop or overseer in Christ's church are present right from the Bible. You can study this lesson and see the difference in the church of Christ and Catholic, denominational and community church organization today!

109). This section tells you exactly what will happen to the wicked; (4) You will learn about the purpose of their traps they set for the righteous; (5) God overthrows the best of secret counsel. They SHOOT from “concealment” (secret) and without fear of God. When they think their plan is perfected and complete, then God will SHOOT at them! God SHOOTS back! Suddenly they are wounded and distressed! (Ps.64).

And there is if the church is doing its work as it should. By refusing the often sought “marketing approach” the Truth becomes apparent. It is the Truth that is important in contrast to sin and religious error. Included is an exposure of the oft used pitch: “Try Us And You’ll Like Us.” The Truth is not about what YOU LIKE i.e. you looking for the biggest SHOW in town!

When “Mr. Make a Show” Visits There are all kinds of visitors – some are beneficial, some are benefitted by edification and instruction and humble themselves (Cf. I Cor. 14:25), and some are to be watched carefully (Cf. Acts 20:28-29). Some are observed making quite a SHOW thinking they impress when they don’t!

Selected Newspaper Articles The following are selected newspaper articles ran by the Valley church of Christ for 2009-2010. We put some together periodically in order to post them on our website. Both churches and preachers would do well to consider that just offering a few scriptural points on important topics can go a long way in helping others. Consider the following points on (1) Why Pentecostal / Charismatic Tactics Easily Deceive; (2) Complaining With No Intention Of Making Things Scriptural; (3) Stupid Kid’s Games Draw Customers; (4) Liberation Theology & Marxist Ideology; (5) SHUNNED TO DECLARE THE WHOLE ~ Human Creeds & Statements of Faith.

109). This section tells you exactly what will happen to the wicked; (4) You will learn about the purpose of their traps they set for the righteous; (5) God overthrows the best of secret counsel. They are craftsmen forming a well thought out plan (SHREWD) carefully perfected (Ps. 64).

Things Often Missing During Afflictions The applications in this brief study will deal with those who are in affliction. Dear reader, you will notice that with some of these God has no pleasure. We are not to be among those who SHRINK BACK to perdition! For others, they see God’s faithfulness during their afflictions. Why not read this either for yourself or with a view to being able to help another?

The Foolishness In Forgetting God’s Word Trials should not cause us to forget God’s law! We can receive strength in remembering past trials we persevered in (Cf. Heb. 10:32-34). The one who perseveres does not SHRINK BACK! Why not read this article and acquaint yourself with what is happening when one forgets God’s law.

Things Often Missing During Afflictions The applications in this brief study will deal with those who are in affliction.  Dear reader, you will notice that with some of these God has no pleasure. For others, they see God’s faithfulness during their SICKNESS. The pattern for the sick is that they call for brethren to pray for them, James 5:14-15. Why not read this either for yourself or with a view to being able to help another.

Taking Snakes to Church (Pentecostals’ Snake Handling)  Some get offended when you ask, “Why do Pentecostals practice FAKE SPIRITUAL SIGNS?” Speaking the truth often offends in the religious realm (cp. Jo. 6:60-62). Randy Mack Wolford “was” a snake handler. He died of a snake bite received during a worship service in May, 2012. His death was supposed to have proved something --- that he was faithful to Christ. I’ll discuss that in light of some scriptures in this article.

And if they will learn anything, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church."  I Cor. 14:34-35

Selected Newspaper Articles   These are selected articles that appeared in our local newspaper, The Sun. The intent of these articles is that each shows a love for and desire to present the Truth without incorporating the emotional flavor so popular with other religious bodies today. Included in these short articles is “War Protesters.” This article is about the great spiritual warfare that is being waged against Satan today. Those on Satan’s side protest with “Peace, peace, when there is no peace” (cf. Ezek. 13:10). For such war protesters the only evil is another’s intolerance! These protesters brag on themselves, with their fleshly wisdom, while speaking against those who are striving to please God and not man (cf. Jo. 5:44; 12:43). They are cowards who fear man and not God! They compromise with Satan being driven by their own lusts to gain wealth, status, power and acceptance with man, not God (cf. Ja. 3:14). Their carnal wisdom tells them their SILENCE in speaking for the truth will render them the approval they seek from men. Moreover, they love to hear one another speak! (cf. I Tim. 4:1-4).

How to Deal With Issues While Loving and Following Jesus Those who deal with issues that come up concerning sound doctrine are often called arrogant for doing so. But think of the arrogance that exempts from the task. Some think they have the privilege to keep SILENT. Brethren (including all members) don’t get to decide “which issues” they’ll deal with for the “issue” comes to you and your church by evil men entering in among you, and from within i.e. from among yourselves men arise speaking perverse things. It is sheer arrogance for one to think they are so important that they do not have to deal with any issue that involves sound doctrine.

For the Naïve, Scoffers and Fools  In Proverbs chapter one “Wisdom” shouts publicly to all including the SIMPLE MINDED (NAÏVE), scorners (scoffers) and fools. Religious and scriptural applications are made with propaganda techniques. God doesn’t Name Call. If God says someone or some group is stupid then they are stupid! God does not use Glittering Generalities. He did not choose words and phrases with always favorable implications! God does not us the Plain Folks approach. God is not just one of us! God used “true” Guilty By Association. The three mentioned in the title are grouped and belong together, God says. God did not use the Band Wagon. Accepting God’s law and obeying it will not put you in the majority!

A Lesson On Being Fleeceable For The Naïve (Gullible) And Simple Minded  Some are amazed at just how SIMPLE MINDED (gullible) Christians can be. At least that’s what some say. This response was written to concur with such amazement. Why not read it and learn why some believe everything they are told?

The Majority Know Another Jesus The church at Corinth gladly tolerated fools who taught another Jesus and different gospel, Paul said (cf. 2 Cor. 11:4, 19).  Read the Gospels for yourself and see what He really did do and teach. Here’s a start with applications from the Gospels themselves that show the stark differences between what most think Jesus taught and what He really did teach! Verses are presented that deal with: (10) …having heard you have no excuse for SIN…

Understand that it is God’s word sought and treasured in our heart that keeps us from SIN (Ps. 119:9-16). Restraining the feet from SIN is the result of knowledge applied! You see this throughout this Psalm. Why not read the article and while doing so read it along with your Bible?

Casting Down Eloquence & Sophistry Series (2 Cor. 10:4-5) While professing love and understanding false teachers make a mockery of Christ’s teaching in “how” they use Matt. 22:39 – they twist “Love thy neighbor as thyself.” They fail to put it properly with the preceding first and greatest commandment – to love God with one’s “all” (cf. Matt. 22:37-38). This love carries with it the idea of duty and obedience to God. Great deceivers are using “love your neighbor” to put their own stamps of approval on SIN! They teach the local church is to accept and fellowship heterosexual couples living in fornication (sin, Gal. 5:19), accept those in homosexual and lesbian relationships (sin, I Cor. 6:9, Rom. 1:26-27) and condone and fellowship adulterous marriages (sin, Matt. 19:9). These deceivers are guilty of rejoicing in iniquity, not loving God, and being religiously injurious to all in their wicked deceptions! Their churches are full of iniquity and their members love to have it so (2 Tim. 3:1-5, 4:3).

Selected Newspaper Articles Here are four newspaper articles presented to the community with a love for the truth. The intent is to present God’s truths without incorporating the emotional flavor so popular with other religious bodies: (2) Politics Does Not Make Evil To Be Good!” presents the fear associated with “political correctness” in our society contrasted with true concern for other in telling them they are wrong morally i.e. religiously. Politicians, like so called ministers, who tell others they don’t believe “fornications” are sinful just seek to reverse in peoples’ minds what the truth about SIN really is. The logical order in which sin appears is from one’s mind (heart) to being carried out by their sinful actions (Matt. 15:19). Read how no amount of political correctness will ever change religious truth.

Ignorance, Ignoring and Intent This article deals with the fallacies of people who reason if I don’t know then I won’t be accountable – these forget SIN with its penalty; people who reason that you don’t know my “intent” – I’m sincere in what I do – also often fail to account for SIN; people are led to believe if you can’t prove my “intent” then you must accept my actions. People will lie to cover intent (Eph. 4:14). Error that stems from ignorance never leads another or others in the right way! To “ignore” does not imply sincerity but the opposite – this is a large part of what contributes to “ignorance” in our churches and among brethren individually.

Just Good Advice Versus The Gospel That Saves The world’s remedy is offered by the world but God’s remedies for sinful situations in the lives of His creation is found in the Gospel of Christ. Some SINS and their remedies are listed. Concerned reader, God’s remedy begins by identifying the SIN and stating the penalty. In this article you will see the vast difference between just offering another advice and telling them the truth about God’s remedies that deal with the soul, the need of instruction from His word, the penalty for having sinned, and what is necessary for one to receive the remission of their SINS.

The Charge that Jesus was a Drag King Etc.  A College professor has been quoted as saying JESUS was a drag king, pan-sexual, who was cross dressing and had lascivious desires at the Passover supper. This capped with Christ (God) lusting sexually after the Father (God) on the Cross. You’d think a “high” prof in a theological class would know God is Spirit and theirs is not a physical relationship. This article gets to the core error of one who held such a prestigious place among men – SIN and what Jesus had to say about it. This with the fact that the Word revealed by the Spirit in the N.T. is the Father’s Word given by Christ who sent the Holy Spirit (also God) to reveal it (Jo. 14:24, 26; 16:13; 17:14-20). There is no Sin in God (I Pet. 2:22). His Word reveals lewdness is expressed in one’s words and not just otherwise behavior. Evil imaginations and images stated in explanations such as we read are condemned throughout the New Testament. The only right thing to say about anyone accusing Jesus of lewdness (in word, thought or deed) is Christ’s own references to man’s heart and what comes out of it in his speech! You may read now about the filthy speech.

So Somebody Told You a Christian Cannot Sin This larger article begins with two brief newspaper articles that illustrates the habit some develop of picking a favorite verse, or verses, without considering “all” that the New Testament teaches on a particular topic. Thus we have an example of “the favorite verses syndrome.” This happens to concern the matter of Christians and when they do SIN. It includes important points and topics such as “God Knows,” “Why Confess?,” “Our Advocate is Jesus Christ,” “The Wholeness of the Doctrine of Christ,” “God Gave Us His Word so We Can Practice Righteousness” and “When Considering the Devil and Christians.”

The Paths of Mercy The subject of God’s great mercy is connected with the things that He delights in. God delights in loving-kindness, justice and righteousness, thus the necessity of our glorying in these things in order that we might receive His mercy. Moreover, God’s mercy is for those who fear Him (Ps. 103:17-18). We must remember that it is in the practice of mercy itself that we receive back from God (Ps. 18:25-27). Applications of God’s kindnesses includes SIN being purged by both mercy and truth.

You saw it so deal with it! You can read about the "immediate" approach of our Lord in correcting SIN in others. This is followed with scriptures depicting the responsibility all members have to do the same.

The Conduct God Expects From Our Members  Read this article and it should help you to better understand the "unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace" (Eph. 4:1-3; Col. 3:12-14). These 7 Virtues are discussed as being necessary for each member of the local church: Lowliness (Humility), Meekness (Gentleness), Longsuffering (Patience), Forebearing (Showing Tolerance), Tender Mercies (Heart of Compassion), Kindness and Forgiving one another.  Understanding these in this context answers such important questions as: Whom can I (admonish) talk to? When do I go to another if they SIN against me? Can I speak publicly in rebuking to thus maintain this unity? What would a refusal to listen indicate? And what happens to one who does not forgive if one repents?

Rule of Law Points From the authority implied in the “name” of Jesus Christ, who has all authority, several points are made concerning the Gospel as the power of God unto salvation for all men, Jesus authority to judge by His law, SIN as a violation of Christ’s law and how His law convicts of SIN. Applications include God is no respecter of persons, to show respect of persons is sin, the kind of judgment that condemns oneself, and the one who boasts in God’s law but dishonors God through breaking the law.

A Study of Sin Confessed  This article addresses the responsibility that Christians have to confess the SINS they commit in order that they might be forgiven. It explores various reasons and motives that lay behind one's willingness to confess their wrongdoing. King Saul in I Samuel 24 is used as an example of admitting to or confessing his unrighteousness but it was without repentance!

The List That Justifies The Ungodly  Using the instruction from Prov. 9:7-9 that says, “Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate you…” this article deals with the ungodly who have no real concern for the whole of God’s commandments and doing all He requires (cf. Ps. 119:160). Such will often “keep records” (lists) of others’ sins that they have repented of. Such wicked “mark” ANOTHER’S SINS in order to use them against them in an unrighteous way! And of course their “list,” so far as they are concerned, is reason enough for them to reject reproofs and rebukes for their own present sins.

Rule of Law Points From the authority implied in the “name” of Jesus Christ, who has all authority, several points are made concerning the Gospel as the power of God unto salvation for all men, Jesus authority to judge by His law, Sin as a violation of Christ’s law and how His law convicts of sin. What You Can And Will Do In Christ  This brief study should offer assurance to Christians that their efforts to serve God faithfully are attainable, as well as being greatly aided by others' prayers on their behalf. What one can and will do by remaining faithful in Christ is declared through the words of Paul's prayer for the church at Colossae in Col. 1:9-12. Here are the key thoughts: A. Be filled with knowledge, all wisdom and spiritual understanding. B. Walk worthy, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God. C. Strengthened for attaining all stedfastness and patience, with joy, and D. Joyously giving thanks to the Father. Following is a "Check Your Spiritual Growth With Self-Test Questions" giving further emphasis to our growth in knowledge and discernment the Christian is to be SINCERE and without offence. The stated "goal" of our efforts is seen in Philippians 1:10-11.

Concern for the Songs We Sing  We SING particular songs because we are concerned about doing all things scripturally – for edification, teaching and admonition. Read this to understand why there was no use of instruments of music in the worship of the churches in the first century churches of Christ.

The Worship of the Church. This is Lesson Five in our Series: "Fundamental Lessons on the Church." Lesson Five: "The Worship of the Church." In this lesson you will be studying the items of worship for the church:

   1. The Lord's Supper upon the first day of the week.

   2. Instruction in God's word.

   3. SINGING.

   4. Prayer.

   5. Giving.

By studying these items of worship you can learn what "edification" means and how it was practiced in the assemblies of the first century church.

“What defines a Church of Christ” Questionnaire (Reviewed)   A questionnaire, totaling 640 plus respondents, titled “What is a Church of Christ” deals with the above question. Some of the answers unscriptural as they were did not surprise me in the least — they echoed the same cat calls we have heard for years to join in fellowship with the denominations and other church types. It set forth the clear division between non-institutional (N.I.) churches and those supporting para-church organizations and missions. It mentioned churches that have added to SINGING their own instruments of music for worship and have jointly ministered with denominational groups and have changed the name but “still identify with the fellowship of autonomous congregations.” In their mind perhaps, but they fail miserably in thinking that those studying the New Testament see them somewhere in there.

Scriptures Governing Our Collective Worship You may never have heard about "Spontaneous SINGING" as practiced in some churches. It could be that you've have observed one singing so loudly they drowned out the song leader and wondered if there were scriptures that might be used to correct such. Perhaps you would be interested in the scriptures that authorize a song leader and a church doing things decently and in order during worship. If so, then you'd be interested in this brief study.

He said he was “chief of SINNERS” and thus he became an example of the longsuffering of God for others to learn by who are going to believe on Christ – to show that the same mercy extended to Paul through obedience to Christ is for all. You use this to show others who are not yet Christians, who believe they have done so much wrong that they are not worthy of salvation in Christ, that the promise of forgiveness of sins when one repents and obeys in baptism is for them as for all others (Comp. Acts 2:21 with 2:36-41).

Selected Newspaper Articles for “The Sun,” Yuma, AZ.  These four articles appeared in our local newspaper, “The Sun,” Yuma, AZ.: (1) “We’re Just A Bunch Of  Kids Here!” presents the frivolous attitude manifested by both adults and young adults in churches today that fails to fulfill the Biblical duty of warning young people to “trust in the Lord; lean not unto thine own understanding” (Cf. Prov. 3:5-6; 22:15; 19:18); (2) “Scriptural Warnings For Grad Night”; (3) “Much Is Lacking In The SINNER’S PRAYER”; (4) “Tell Me I’m A Great Guy!” ~ This brief article deals with winter visitors and the disgusting way in which churches vie with other churches for both numerical and financial advantage. As the topic suggests, “I’m back and now you may get your chance at telling me what a great guy I am.”

Various scriptural usages of the word “religion” are presented in this article, while contrasting false religion with the faith once delivered to the saints (Jude 3). You find references to the Jews’ religion, sects of the Jews (Pharisees & Sadducees), and man-made religion after the commandments and doctrines of men (The so called “SINNER’S PRAYER” is man’s invention or tradition). Such are contrasted with “pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father” (Ja.1:27).

Today much emphasis is put on “belief” (just as long as one is sincere) rather than the necessity of the Truth being believed.  Things in Christ not found in Islam  One simple but effective way of explaining the difference between a major “world” religion and the gospel of Christ (the New Testament, Matt. 26:28) is to show the things found “in Christ” that are not found elsewhere.  The following are things found in Jesus Christ that are not found in Islam; one of these being that Jesus’ sacrifice is the propitiation for all SINS.

Go ye therefore and make disciples of all the nations… An explanation of the commission given to the Apostles states how one truly becomes a "disciple" of Christ by being baptized for the remission of one's SINS.

Membership Requirements According to the First Century Revelation This lesson is Lesson Three in our Series: "Fundamental Lessons on the Church." Lesson Three: "Membership Requirements According to the First Century Revelation." In this lesson you will learn about what one must do to be saved and become a member of Christ's church. A full discussion of the conversion of the Ethiopian eunuch leads the way as an introduction to the study of the accounts of conversion recorded in the book of Acts. The question "What must I do to be saved?" is fully answered as one learns what acts are necessary in order that one might have forgiveness of SINS.

Baptism As Taught From The Bible   In this article the example of the baptism of the Ethiopian eunuch in the first century is set in contrast with teaching from the Catholic Encyclopedia, "Baptism, Sacrament of." New Testament baptism is for the remission of SINS (Acts 2:38). The explanation that the Catholic Encyclopedia gives simply does not equate with what the New Testament teaches about baptism being an immersion. The mode of baptism taught in the New Testament is immersion and not "pouring." Neither does the New Testament teach a blessing of the water before baptism! Above all the New Testament does not teach infant baptism.

Things Often Missing During Afflictions The applications in this brief study will deal with those who are in affliction. Dear reader, you will notice that with some of these God has no pleasure. Grievous times are the result of one’s own SINS (Ps. 107:17). For others, they see God’s faithfulness during their afflictions. Why not read this either for yourself or with a view to being able to help another.

Do Not Let Your Heart Envy Sinners  Developing speech that correctly describes the SINNER is emphasized – and especially as this relates to our children’s sins. Applications are made for this important question: If you can’t say the wicked are so what are some likely problem you will have?

Excuses ~ Oldies Are Still the Goodies!  There’s nothing so entertaining to some as tuning in to the “Oldies” program on their available radio network. Some of those hits you just don’t get tired of hearing, and there are some excuses for evading scriptural authority that you are always hearing from those who never tire of using them. Here are several oldies that are still goodies for those disrespecting scriptural authority: I. We are all part of the body of Christ; II. The eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you”; III. Jesus said, I am the vine and ye are the branches; IV. God loves SINNERS too; V. We’ve all been left under human tradition; VI. Only God can judge another; VII. I’d never tell you that you are in the wrong church; VIII. Never place a period where God has placed a comma.

Why not study the nine points of application directed towards their being scripturally appreciated.

The application includes appreciation for SISTERS in Christ. Their knowledge and willingness to uphold sound doctrine is a great sustaining factor in the success of every sound church (cf. Rom. 16:1-2; Phil. 1:27). They have their part as members in fulfilling the commands in I Thes. 5:14 -- as well as in withdrawing “collectively” and not associating with “individually.” And some of them take their work seriously. God bless them!

Many and Few by Contrast  It is better to have few than to have the human organizations our brethren have formed that intrude into the work God gave the local churches to do. God’s blessings come for the few as well as many who are willing to respect scriptural authority. Here are some applications as to why a church may be small in number. SIZE does not determine soundness.

They Don’t Have A Right To Be Supported By Our Local Churches The matter of the Truth Magazine Lectureship has come up again (Guardian of Truth Foundation’s). I ask you to consider the following points: (1) What they cannot accept tells what they are; (2) Their use of old Liberal Institutional SLOGANS tell what they are; (3) Their silly comparisons tell what they lack.

Selected Newspaper Articles for 2013 These newspaper articles from 2013 include: (1) “Using ‘Christendom’ to Cover Religious Error”; (2) “The Ways of the Street Mugger”; (3) “Murders, Murderers, Victims”; (4) “Surely not a Hot Head” – emphasis is on being swift to hear, slow to speak and SLOW TO WRATH; (5) “Surely not a Greedy Person.”

Many and Few by Contrast  Most of our churches are SMALL, and brethren often mention the numbers they once had. It is better to have few than to have the human organizations our brethren have formed that intrude into the work God gave the local churches to do. God’s blessings come for the few as well as many who are willing to respect scriptural authority. Here are some applications as to why a church may be small in number. Size does not determine SOUNDNESS.

Taking Snakes to Church (Pentecostals’ Snake Handling): Some get offended when you ask, “Why do Pentecostals practice fake spiritual signs?” Speaking the truth often offends in the religious realm (cp. Jo. 6:60-62). Randy Mack Wolford “was” a SNAKE HANDLER. He died of a snake bite received during a worship service in May, 2012. His death was supposed to have proved something --- that he was faithful to Christ. I’ll discuss that in light of some scriptures in this article.

Selected Newspaper Articles for 2013 These newspaper articles from 2013 include: (1) “Using ‘Christendom’ to Cover Religious Error”; (2) “The Ways of the Street Mugger”; (3) “Murders, Murderers, Victims”; (4) “Surely not a Hot Head” – emphasis is on the Fool’s lips bringing contention, destruction and a SNARE; (5) “Surely not a Greedy Person.”

109). They can fall into their own SNARES and nets they set for others; (4) You will learn about the purpose of their traps they set for the righteous; (5) God overthrows the best of secret counsel (Ps. 64).

A Request: Pray For Me! This article deals with Christians who request prayer on their behalf. "Ideally, when brethren pray for one another they have confidence in each other's devotion and service to the Lord." Several points are made concerning the one making the request such as: "Are they predicating their request on their own good conscience and willingness to live honestly and SOBERLY?" (Heb. 13:18).

Selected Newspaper Articles   These are selected articles that appeared in our local newspaper, The Sun. The intent of these articles is that each shows a love for and desire to present the Truth without incorporating the emotional flavor so popular with other religious bodies today. Included is “Coming To Worship ~ A Spectator Sport!” Because laughter is one of the easiest responses to induce it is being used for deception.  Laughter keeps one’s emotions foremost rather than reason; it shuts out thoughts of fearing God, eternity, human frailty, either reward or punishing following one’s death. The sinner is made to feel good when they should feel bad! Religious counterfeits have seduced the simple minded into ACCEPTING THE SOCIAL as the spiritual and worship.

Selected Newspaper Articles The following are selected newspaper articles ran by the Valley church of Christ for 2009-2010. We put some together periodically in order to post them on our website. Both churches and preachers would do well to consider that just offering a few scriptural points on important topics can go a long way in helping others. Consider the following points on (1) Why Pentecostal / Charismatic Tactics Easily Deceive; (2) Complaining With No Intention Of Making Things Scriptural; (3) Stupid Kid’s Games Draw Customers; (4) Liberation Theology & Marxist Ideology; (5) Mere SOCIAL GOALS ~ Human Creeds & Statements of Faith.

Aids & Additions (Expediencies Reviewed)  Most churches never speak out on the necessity of having “scriptural authority” for what one believes and practices. In fact, most are not willing to deal with the subject because of the lack of authority for things they are doing. It is important to know the difference between “aids” used to carry out what is authorized versus “additions” which are things not authorized. This lesson should help with that distinction.

Before brethren justify something based upon expediency they must first state the authorized work, need or thing commanded to be done. Sadly, some brethren will reason on the basis of what they “like” or “enjoy” and seek to incorporate it into the work and worship of the local church. This sometimes happens when brethren seek to justify a practice by saying it makes them feel better. Some just flat reject what is authorized, get mad, and leave. The truth never causes anyone to stumble, but rejecting it will! (I Jo. 2:10).

At times you will find members who will accept what is authorized in the work and worship of the church while admitting that in their own mind they’d be willing to do that which is not authorized — this usually comes with the promise that they’d never cause trouble or go against the majority. Error in the mind is still error!

Applications are made to these important topics: (1) Instruction to Assemble; (2) The Example of a Treasury; (3) Why the church building is authorized; (4) SOCIAL FUNCTIONS: Kitchens, Fellowship Halls & Game Rooms On Church Grounds; (5) The Assemblies of the church in I Cor. 11, 14; (6) Acts 2:42-46; (7) The Serving of the Widows, Acts 6:1-6.

And there is if the church is doing its work as it should. By refusing the often sought “marketing approach” the Truth becomes apparent. It is the Truth that is important in contrast to sin and religious error. Included is an exposure of the often used pitch: “Try Us And You’ll Like Us.” People should be implored to come to the light of God’s Word (Jo. 3:19-21) --- and not come because they’ll like flattery, SOCIALS and entertainment.

Modern Day Rabshakehs Rabshakeh the spokesman for the great King of Assyria is all over the place in his blasphemy concerning who God is and what God is doing on the earth. Read his contradictions about God as he threatens the inhabitants of Jerusalem --- telling them not to let Hezekiah convince them to trust in the Lord. A parallel is easy made to those who claim to know God and have Jesus on their side -- answer the so called “WOKE SOCIAL JUSTICE MOVEMENT” with the works of the flesh that Jesus condemned. Jesus is God and God is on to their woke! When you put their “woke social justice” on the board and look at their walk i.e. their lifestyle you see its great immoral failure!

Speak Evil of No Man – But I Can Say… We find the admonition to “speak evil of no man” in Titus 3:2. To speak evil means to vilify, defame, or blaspheme. Most don’t know how to read the Bible. In the same verse we are not to be a brawler. If I call a brawler what he is, i.e., a brawler do I violate “speak evil of no man”? People pay no attention to what Jesus said and where he said it. Furthermore, they pay no attention to what hypocrites said to Him and when they said it. Finally, most pay no attention to what Jesus said and who He said it to! When it comes to SOCIAL, CULTURAL, AND POLITICAL ACTIVITIES, Christians deal with the immoralities as He did. The unfruitful works of darkness are to be reproved. (Eph 5:11-13). I’ll use Herod Antipas as the first example. Was he the fox Jesus said he was?

Why Aren’t Your Kids In Camp?  (1997) Brethren building HUMAN SOCIETIES / ORGANIZATIONS to function in worship and edification is again addressed by referencing the Camps. Summer time of the year obviously appears to be what some have referred to as the time for "youth summer camp,” "youth rallies," and "Florida College Camp” time. If you think I'm too concerned about nothing of any importance then you may be the one who needs the warning.     Individually Supported Societies on the Side Line (2001) This article shows how apostasy repeats itself. We now have some who are building HUMAN SOCIETIES AS MINISTRIES to be supported by individual contributions. This is institutionalism that is not the New Testament pattern God gave to His people! For other lessons this topic see Guardian Of Truth, Guardian Of Truth Foundation, Truth Magazine Lectureship, and Florida College. NOTE: You will also find a series of articles answering arguments made for the existence of FLORIDA COLLEGE on our Home Page. Simply access “Florida College” or click here  .    We Are Delivered To Do All Of This!  (2006)  When it comes to Christians building HUMAN SOCIETIES / INSTITUTIONS for worship and evangelism the issue has always been the right of man to build another organization when God specified His, the local church (I Tim. 3:15). God gave the local church as the pillar and support of the truth! (I Tim. 3:15) In defense of the Guardian of Truth’s own “Truth Magazine Lectureship” age old arguments are popping up again, such as the School of Tyrannus argument and the Jesus Foundation. Why would any Christian give precedent to any human organization if it stands in the way of a return to practicing God’s wisdom in giving the local church?      The Lies Of Apostasies  (2007) The full title of this article is “The Pattern Of Lies Producing And Sustaining Apostasies.” You don’t see much on this particular part of apostasy in spite of the fact that those involved are frequently said to have misrepresented others’ statements, twist what others say in confronting them, and that they just flat make false statements. Read this article to study what Jeroboam did wrong when he said in his heart that God’s established order would not work. Besides Jeroboam’s apostasy, the article presents in detail the pattern of lies producing apostasies from the book of Jeremiah. Application is made to our brotherhood’s HUMAN SOCIETIES / INSTITUTIONS.

Here is an excerpt referring to two present apostasies: “For how many years have brethren been attending and supporting individually college lectureships men devised in their own hearts? …Well, now we are hearing that evil forces were not halted and now things are getting worse. Some cry out, “Something is happening that is worse than we ever imagined!” Why would anyone be surprised? After all the talk, talk, talk, and just talk did anyone really expect anything better to happen? Now, today, as some men speak of the “danger” involved in what Florida College and now the Guardian Of Truth Foundation (Truth Magazine Lectureship) are doing they say it competes with the Local Church God ordained, and has the potential to “replace” the local church in this country. Hmm — really!” NOTE: You will also find a series of articles answering arguments made for the existence of FLORIDA COLLEGE on our Home Page. Simply access “Florida College” or click here  . (For Human Organizations or Institutions doing the work of the local church see “Human Organizations” (H index); “Institutions” (I index).

They Don’t Have A Right To Be Supported By Our Local Churches (2008) The matter of the Truth Magazine Lectureship has come up again (Guardian of Truth Foundation’s). Today our brethren are putting themselves in Human SOCIETIES / INSTITUTIONS where they know they have no right to be supported by our local churches. I ask you to consider the following points: (1) What they cannot accept tells what they are; (2) Their use of old liberal institutional slogans tell what they are; (3) Their silly comparisons tell what they lack. (For Human Organizations or Institutions doing the work of the local church see “Human Organizations” (H index); “Institutions” (I index).

Great Truths learned from Tom Roberts Speech at the Truth Magazine Lectures 2009  Those involved in the Guardian of Truth Foundation apostasy need to repent. Tom Roberts’ speech at the Truth Magazine Lectures simply reveals their continued digression ---- they seek to justify brethren building HUMAN SOCIETIES / INSTITUTIONS. He uses arguments that liberals used to justify human societies in past generations. You’ll be benefitted by this article if you care about warning others concerning this continuing apostasy in our brotherhood. (For Human Organizations or Institutions doing the work of the local church see “Human Organizations” (H index); “Institutions” (I index).

It’s Not A Church! (2010) The acceptance of one human organization spawns others. A kinship develops through acceptance, and the influence of even one “type” of HUMAN SOCIETY can weigh strongly in others’ desire for yet another. The common defense of the HUMAN SOCIETY amongst us is “It’s not a church” --- thus the arguments that the school, the camp and the benevolent society engaged in works God gave the local church are to be accepted. But defining the human society by what it is “not” by no means scripturally justifies it. This article presents this common defense with current application. NOTE: You will also find a series of articles answering arguments made for the existence of FLORIDA COLLEGE on our Home Page. Simply access “Florida College” or click here  .     The Great Apostasy is Done, Finished! (2012) This article brings the apostasy of INDIVIDUAL SOCIETIES built by Christians up to date. What was proposed in the 1800s and then again in our lifetime has taken root. Faithful members have always recognized that the congregational plan is the divine arrangement. Societies built today to do the works God gave His organization, the local church, to do are additions to His plan. They are not as is said just another avenue, or tool, for the church to do its work. Again, they are additions to God’s divine plan! This article is applicable to the Guardian of Truth Foundation Lectureship, Florida College engaged in worship and evangelism, and multiple CAMPS that engage in worship and edification. In conjunction with this you might also want to read “Individually Supported Societies on the Sideline.”  NOTE: You will also find a series of articles answering arguments made for the existence of FLORIDA COLLEGE on our Home Page. Simply access “Florida College” or click here  . (For Human Organizations or Institutions doing the work of the local church see “Human Organizations” (H index); “Institutions” (I index).

It’s Camp Time Again! (2013) Brethren building human organizations to function in worship and edification is again addressed by referencing the Camps. Such CAMPS are our children’s introductions to brethren building UNAUTHORIZED HUMAN SOCIETIES / INSTITUTIONS for worship, edification and evangelism. Local churches should teach on human organizations depreciating God’s own divinely given organization, the local church. You will find points such as: (1) The Fallacy of “You’re another one!”  An example of falsely claiming you’re another is: “Well it is just like the family when you have someone over for a bible study.” God authorized the family (Gen. 2:24-25). The family is a God ordained institution. When we have a bible study with others there is no collective treasury for all. The Camp is a man-made religious organization; (2)The Apology that is an Admission”: Some have sought to offer an explanation that their aim is to be neither a church or a Bible Camp in the popular sense, but to instill moral principles and other virtues taught in the Bible. They say that they include Bible study and worship in daily activities but the “main thrust” of the Camp is not evangelism. Smooth words and fair speeches! The “dual-purpose” argument — that the primary purpose authorized the secondary is often used but is of no value. There’s nothing right about worshipping with the human organization.    Our Brethren’s “Sole Purpose” Argument & “The Percentage Justification” (2014): Quote: “Some of our brethren have built and maintained HUMAN SOCIETIES / ORGANIZATIONS (businesses) that do a portion of the above works belonging to the local church. Such will often seek to justify their own organization’s work in these areas by citing a percentage basis. They will reason if the “sole purpose” is evangelism to save the lost world then it would be wrong. Then they say that the “spiritual work” done is not the primary work of the legitimate business in question. This is an all too obvious maneuver or trick that intentionally takes away the importance of the “whole” as belonging to God’s specified organization -- the local church arrangement given to His people.” (For Human Organizations or Institutions doing the work of the local church see “Human Organizations” (H index); “Institutions” (I index).

Patterns of Apostasy Repeat Themselves: The following brief outline on “Patterns of Apostasy” repeating themselves is used in our congregation for a “special class” when needed. The outline of itself presents a quick view of patterns repeating themselves through the years of even our own lives. It presents both “individual” and “church” supported SOCIETIES that have been built by brethren: In 1845 J.T. Johnson’s evangelistic plan for individuals not a congregational association; 1849 the American Christian Missionary Society supported by churches; (methods promoting apostasy during this period were used to introduce Instrumental Music in worship: (1) as early as 1851 in Kentucky “We are far in the rear of Protestants on the subject of church music”; (2) L. L. Pinkerton of Midway Ky. 1860 – can pinpoint the suggestions and argument “for”; (3) back again in 1864 W.K. Pendleton admits no N.T. usage but argues on basis of “silence of the scriptures” and “expediency” – it was an expedient like the  church building); 1942 Planning for Florida Christian College begins and in 1946 the first students. This was not church supported but tactics similar to earlier apostasies; 1948 the Akin Foundation established as an organization for the support of churches of Christ; 1950s the Gospel Press organized to initially be supported by individuals – then started soliciting churches; 1950s the church support of Human Societies Orphan Homes, the College, etc. The Sponsoring Church movement: The Herald of Truth, Feb. 10,1952 the Highland Church of Christ, Abilene, Tx. – was not same false pattern as A.C.M.S. was; 1970s-80s talk about our brethren building human societies for evangelistic purposes – as with other apostasies can pin point beginnings – 1973 the Cogdill Foundation appealed for contributions (donations) to send free tracts to the Philippines – questioned and dropped the appeal – late 1970s Mike Willis, the Guardian of Truth Foundation – discussions with Gene Frost, etc.; 2004 The first Guardian of Truth Foundation Lectureship – in just some 30 years a major apostasy again! Today we see a most “institutional” non-institutional brotherhood – to list a few through the years: Florida College, Guardian of Truth Foundation, F.C. Camps and others now, the Barnabas Ministry, WOW, Bread Upon the Waters, 1213. * For more detail see the outline.

Educational Institutions Among The Brethren by Robert F. Turner (Preceptor 1962)   EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS AMONG THE BRETHREN. Preface: The below is the first of six articles written in 1962 by brother Robert Turner as duplicated by brother Dan Gatlin. A link will be provided should you desire to read them in full, and I believe it will benefit you to do so. However, I’m compelled to warn that the below approach captioned with the catch phrase “hasten leisurely” was not and is not today the way to deal with apostasy. The phrase as you’ll see was taken from the president of Franklin College who urged brethren in 1850 to “hasten leisurely” in their conclusions touching the subject of the Bible in Colleges, Professorships in Sacred History and Theological Schools. Brother Turner adopts and repeats it as that which best expresses his own personal feelings on this matter in 1962 — some 112 years later. We must never convince ourselves as Christians only that to deal with error immediately and demand repentance will do more harm than good — those involved in error must repent and stop the practice thereof (Cf. Acts 15:1-2; Gal. 2:14). Although you find no scriptures in the several pages of these articles — “church history” has been and easily may be accompanied by New Testament Scriptures to expose the false practices, motives and patterns produced by the human wisdom that seeks to establish human organizations (SOCIETIES) to do the work Christ gave the churches of Christ to do.

The Real Sin In Sodom  This article is a reply to a respondent who was delighted with the error that was presented in News Week’s Dec. 15ths feature article “Gay Marriage: Our Mutual Joy.” I wasn’t delighted and had something to say scripturally concerning those who justify the wicked as being an abomination to the Lord (cf. Prov. 17:15).  The following ensued as he replied to what I had said. And I in turn to what he said. There is a great of deal scriptural information here concerning what Jesus and inspired writers said about the sin of homosexuality. There are descriptions of SODOM both from the Old and New Testaments.

Casting Down Eloquence & Sophistry Series (2 Cor. 10:4-5) SODOM’S filthy conduct in the Old (Gen.19) stands as an example of the punishment of such for those who live afterwards in the New Testament period (2 Pet. 2:6-9; Jude 7). Jesus, Himself God, referred to this judgment where the Lord rained fire and brimstone on Sodom and Gomorrah. He said it will be just the same way the day the Son of Man is revealed! (Lk. 17: 27-30).

A Case Of Compromise The primary part of this study concerns Jehoshaphat (the king of Judah) and his compromise with wicked Ahab the king of Israel (the northern kingdom). It compares Ahab's religion with the description of Jehoshaphat who did not let the Levitical service and the Temple deteriorate, but was diligent in having the law of God taught in Judah (2 Ch. 17:6-9). A point compares SOLOMON'S sin in I Kings 10:26-11:6 in falling into idolatry with what God said Kings must do in De. 17:14-20.This simple lesson shows why people compromise the Truth along with the attendant consequences for doing such.

What Every Politician Needs to Know  Applicable lessons based upon David’s addresses (and of course God’s) to Solomon concerning his reigning upon David’s throne form the background of this particular article. This article applies to politicians. Read about SOLOMON’S THRONE and his exemplification of one of his own proverbs: “It is an abomination to kings to commit wickedness: for the throne is established by righteousness” (Prov. 6:12). Applications are also made from the book of Jeremiah and the Psalms denouncing oppression, fraud, extortion, cruelty and the destruction of the foundation of society.

The Devil and the spiritual host of wickedness (not flesh and blood) working here to destroy souls, is considered by most to be a myth (Ja 4:7; I Pet. 5:8; Eph. 6:10-13).

JESUS DELIVERS FROM GOD’S WRATH COMING UPON THE SONS OF DISOBEDIENCE (EPH. 5:6; I TH 1:10, 5:9).

•Eph 5:6 refers to 5:3-5 which lists the very filth promoted by CRT, LGBTQ, Trans Identification, etc.

•On Pentecost, Peter answered their question on what to do to be saved, and he commanded those who heard the gospel to repent and be baptized for the remission of their sins (Acts 2:37-41).

•Paul spoke to the supposed wise men in Athens at the Areopagus (Acts 17:22-33).

Act 17:30 Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent,

Act 17:31 because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead."

Concern for the Songs We Sing  We sing particular SONGS because we are concerned about doing all things scripturally – for edification, teaching and admonition. Read this to understand why there was no use of instruments of music in the worship of the churches in the first century churches of Christ.

Casting Down Eloquence & Sophistry Series (2 Cor. 10:4-5) The title is aimed at the eloquence and SOPHISTRY of False Teachers. Modern teachers love to emphasize some of the teaching of Jesus while discounting the teaching of His apostles. This “discount” includes all prophets who wrote the New Testament. Their prejudice against the whole of the New Testament scriptures makes it easy to identify them. It is the Scriptures themselves that expose their unwillingness to accept the whole of the New Testament teaching as the revealed will of Christ. Why not take time to read the exposure of such false teachers in these newspaper articles.

A Safe Deposit For My Treasures Do you really want to go to heaven? This article contrasts the physical setbacks besetting those who suffered during the fires of 2003 with the eternal setbacks of not heeding Jesus instruction in Matt. 6:19-20. Why not refresh your mind by reading about heaven as a safe deposit for your treasures? You can read and understand that Heaven is a place where there will be NO MORE death, SORROW, crying, pain, curse or night -- just eternal day (Rev. 21:1-4, 21:25-22:5).

Why We Rejoice With One Another  God delights over His people to do them good (De. 28:63). The Psalmist said, “Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart” (Ps. 97:11). We are commanded to rejoice with those who rejoice, and to weep with those who weep, being of the same mind one toward another (Rom. 12:15-16). Our being SORROWFUL when one is arrogant and suffers is different from sharing joy and SORROW as Paul spoke of in Rom. 12. If one of us suffers because we remain obstinate and arrogant then our SORROW will be the tears of Jeremiah if we love them: “But if ye will not hear it, my soul shall weep in secret places for your pride; and mine eye shall weep sore, and run down with tears, because the Lord's flock is carried away captive” (Jer. 13:17). We know that arrogance and pride God will destroy! The righteous will weep because of this for the reasons Jeremiah did in Lamentations— they were given many opportunities to repent and give glory to God, but that takes fear and trembling, and they refused every time the offer was given and would not (cf. Jer. 13:15-19, 15:7, 5:3). Then there is bitter sorrow in realizing God has made enemies rejoice over His own when He casts them off (Ps. 89:42).

From Youth through the Prime of Life (Eccl. 11:9-12:1)  There are degrees of progression of age in this text. Accountability is seen throughout and the “right” things done are contrasted with things sinful that must be removed. These portions of life merge together and are fleeting, thus the necessity of remembering one’s Creator in the days of youth. Those in young adulthood are to know that for all things done God will bring you into judgment (Eccl. 11:9). They must remove SORROW (grief and anger)  from their lives, and pain from their body for childhood and the prime of life are fleeting!

Selected Newspaper Articles From The Valley Church of Christ  Life for everyone, rich and poor, has its vanity and seems empty and without purpose. This life on earth possesses SORROWS and grief over man’s double-mindedness, deceit and lies. Moreover one’s own sins are a vexation of spirit! Friend, the answer is not in beauty, riches, mirth or pleasure; neither will one find the answer in psychology or mere human wisdom that fails man again and again in providing the right answers to vexation of spirit. Read “Has Someone Pulled The Plug From Your Life?”

Why Churches Fear Applying “Scriptural Authority” ~ Selected Newspaper Articles  How false plans for unity cause local churches to cast aside “SOUND DOCTRINE” in order to accept those practicing the grossest of immoralities into fellowships (Cf. I Cor. 5, 6; I Tim. 1:10).

How to Deal With Issues While Loving and Following Jesus Those who deal with issues that come up concerning sound doctrine are often called arrogant for doing so. But think of the arrogance that exempts from the task.

“I’m Staying with Zoom” The current pride in technology denominational invite is “Worship online or in person here.” We must be certain that what we do with high tech is scriptural as regards the work and worship of Christ’s church. If “zoom” and “online” are let stray, as some among us already have, then you will have a developed human tradition that will cause many to lose their souls. The impact itself on the body of Christ can be like a spreading spiritual virus in years following upon member’s zeal for assembling (Cf. Eph. 4:14; 2 Tim. 2:17; Heb. 10:24-27). To “speak the things proper for SOUND DOCTRINE you must know the difference between the word “home” and “house” and “houses” and the words “come together as a church” and “assembling of ourselves together” and “in the church.” Read here for proper definitions that lead to proper applications of what it means to “assemble together.

The kind of SPEAKING DEMANDED is presented in the following points with the definitions given:

Showing oneself a lover of the truth is seen in SPEAKING the truth to one another (EPH. 4:20-25).

TO SPEAK, exhort and rebuke with all authority (TITUS 2:15)

PREACHING involves “REPROVE” [G1651], “REBUKE” [G2008] & “EXHORT” [G3870] (CF. 2 TIM. 4:2)

QUALIFIED ELDERS BOTH EXHORT (G3870) AND CONVICT or CONVINCE (G1651) THE GAINSAYSERS (G483) (Titus 1:9).

When “Mr. Make a Show” Visits There are all kinds of visitors – some are beneficial, some are benefitted by edification and instruction and humble themselves (Cf. I Cor. 14:25), and some are to be watched carefully (Cf. Acts 20:28-29). Any offer for a local church to merger with another should be considered in light of “sound doctrine.” Many can quickly forget about “STAND FAST” (Phil. 1:27; 2 Thess. 2:15) and “SOUND DOCTRINE” verses (2 Tim. 4:2; Titus 1:9; Titus 2:1) and be induced to make personal acceptance the standard for fellowship and not sound doctrine to avoid trouble at all costs --- which undeniably has led onwards to what we see in so called churches of Christ (in name only) where they have women deacons, then add women preachers, then add women elders --- and onwards to fellowshipping practicing gays and lesbians --- most all justified by false teaching on love. That’s how apostasy works. It keeps going further from the New Testament patterns all the while ignoring sound doctrine.

Selected Newspaper Articles for 2013 These newspaper articles from 2013 include: (1) “Using ‘Christendom’ to Cover Religious Error”; (2) “The Ways of the Street Mugger”; (3) “Murders, Murderers, Victims”; (4) “Surely not a Hot Head” – emphasis is on being swift to hear, SLOW TO SPEAK and slow to wrath, and (5) “Surely not a Greedy Person.”

Selected Newspaper Articles Here are four newspaper articles presented to the community with a love for the truth. The intent is to present God’s truths without incorporating the emotional flavor so popular with other religious bodies. “When You’re Promised You’ll Like It!” exposes “pitches” for attracting visitors contrasted with what God’s word should produce in those who hear. As one in town put it, “I hate to admit it but going where I go I think at times I’m looking at Ken and Barbie.” Ken and Barbie productions are made to please men not God! (cf. Gal. 1:10). Be aware that God’s word teaches that the fault lies with “both” the listeners and the SPEAKERS. Read the article and see such speakers for what they really are according to the scriptures. And realize the audience is at fault as well for desiring them!

(cf. I Tim. 4:1-4).

Speak Evil of No Man – But I Can Say… We find the admonition to SPEAK EVIL OF NO MAN” in Titus 3:2.

The List That Justifies The Ungodly  Using the instruction from Prov. 9:7-9 that says, “Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate you…” this article deals with the ungodly who have no real concern for the whole of God’s commandments and doing all He requires (cf. Ps. 119:160). It includes the Lord’s rebuke to hypocrites who “look at” the SPECK in another’s eye, but refuse to see the “log” that is in their own eye! (Matt. 7). While having this great concern for “specks” they have failed to cleanse themselves from “all filthiness” of the flesh and spirit, thus perfecting holiness in the fear of the Lord (2 Cor. 7:1). This teaching is combined with the warning in Matt. 7 concerning “ravenous wolves” — the wicked who will justify themselves while seeking to destroy the just (Matt. 7:15).

Things Often Missing During Afflictions The applications in this brief study will deal with those who are in affliction. Dear reader, you will notice that with some of these God has no pleasure. For others, they see God’s faithfulness during their afflictions. God requires continued confidence and BOLDNESS IN SPEECH during trials and afflictions! Why not read this either for yourself or with a view to being able to help another.

Why Churches Fear Applying “Scriptural Authority” ~ Selected Newspaper Articles  Local churches of Christ must continue to be the pillar and support of the truth.

Human Life And Cloning  This article by Tino Unlap contains a simplified explanation of what human cloning might consist of for the benefit of all. It explains in simple terms the W's altered (enucleated) seed in the absence of the physical act of intimacy. All 46 chromosomes come from the H and none from the wife. The fertilized egg's equivalent is planted in the W's womb and allowed to develop into a full fledge baby after nine months. Additionally there are Scriptures from the Bible concerning human life and the SPIRIT OF MAN, and this along with some Questions for one's own meditation.

IS A HUMAN TRADITION BEING DEVELOPED NOW AMONG CHURCHES?

Are brethren being led to believe that an online presentation is “assembling”?

DO HUMAN TRADITIONS AGAINST THE WORD PLEASE FALSE TEACHERS AND FALSE BRETHREN?

Where do false motive come from? Just how much in such a developed human tradition is there a pleasing of self and others? Enough to leave sound doctrine!

THE KIND OF SPIRIT GOD HAS GIVEN US (2 TIM. 1:7)

2Ti 1:7 For God has NOT GIVEN US A SPIRIT OF FEAR, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

“SPIRIT” [G4151 pneuma] – Thayer 5. “disposition, desire…”

a. NOT OF “FEAR” (timidity, NASB) [G1167 deilia, n.] Thayer: 1) timidity, fearfulness, cowardice. From [G1169 deilos, adj.] > From δέος deos (dread); timid, that is, (by implication) faithless: - fearful > Rev. 21:8 “cowardly” followed by “unbelieving” [G571 apistos] 1) unfaithful, faithless, (not to be trusted, perfidious).

b. “BUT OF POWER” [G1411 dunamis] Thayer: strength, ability, power – from [G1410 dunamai] to be able or possible: - be able, can (do, + -not), could, may, might, be possible, be of power; Rom. 1:16 “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.”

Notes: “spirit” (mind, mental or desire):  “…not ...of fear” (timidity, cowardice), “but of power” (*seen in believing and doing the Word, 2 Tim. 1:8, 2 Tim. 3:5 denied the power thus weak and unfit; Ja. 1:22 doers of the word);

Some verses where we are told to be able and are able: Jas 1:22 doers of the word; Lk. 6:46-48; Jo. 12:42-43; I Th. 2:2; Eph. 3:16-17; Col. 1:9-12.

c. “OF LOVE AND A SOUND MIND” – “sound” [G4995 sōphronismos] Thayer:

1) an admonishing or calling to soundness of mind, to moderation and self-control.

Application: You can’t separate the sound mind from sound doctrine!

CAN’T SEPARATE THE WORD FROM STRENGTH!

VERSES: Rom. 1:16-17 “the Gospel of Christ for it is the power of God unto salvation”; Eph. 6:11 “put on the whole armor of God that you might be able to stand”, 16 “shield of faith” (cf. Rom. 10:17 faith comes by hearing the word), 17 “the sword of the Spirit…the word of God”, 19 “prayer and supplication for all saints.” Christ’s strength would have gotten all of His churches through “lock down” whatever it took: 1) Back Yards 2) Open Spaces 3) Parking Lots etc.

“THE CHURCH IS NOT THE BUILDING!”

Remember way back when we were explaining that the church is not the building – that church buildings are expedients of the command to assemble (Heb. 10:25) and the work of edifying the body (I Cor. 14:26) – there was common way of putting it plainly back then, “You can meet under a tree for that matter!” Let’s hear that again, “You can meet under a tree for that matter! Yes, “You can meet under a tree for that matter! Until it came time to! Let’s hear that again. Until it came time to!

Is There Prophecy Today? This is a study of prophecy in the New Testament dispensation with appropriate warnings to those often deceived by false teachers claiming not only the gift of prophecy but other spiritual gifts as well. There is an abundance of information on all of the SPIRITUAL GIFTS; “prophecy” was one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit enumerated in I Corinthians 12:8-10. Prophecy appears here along with speaking in tongues, the word of knowledge, and various other spiritual gifts. Notice that there were nine SPIRITUAL GIFTS in all that were given to the infant church: 1. the word of wisdom, 2. the word of knowledge, 3. faith, 4. gifts of healing, 5. working of miracles, 6. prophecy, 7. discerning of spirits, 8. different kinds of tongues (languages), and 9. the interpretation of tongues.

An Example of going beyond Local Church Organization – The Seventh-day Adventists  Here is a comparison of Christ’s church as set forth in the New Testament and the SEVENTH-DAY ADVENTISTS.  As you read this you will see important points on “how” false religions get started. There is a vast difference in stating that we must go back to the New Testament patterns for the organization and worship of Christ's church He built, and the establishment of a denomination upon false visions and leaders falsely claiming the SPIRITUAL gift of prophecy (I Cor. 13:8). New Testament authority for what is practiced is sorely lacking today!

Selected Newspaper Articles The following are selected newspaper articles ran by the Valley church of Christ for 2009-2010. We put some together periodically in order to post them on our website. Both churches and preachers would do well to consider that just offering a few scriptural points on important topics can go a long way in helping others. Consider the following points on (1) SPIRITUAL GIFTS ~ Why Pentecostal / Charismatic Tactics Easily Deceive; (2) Complaining With No Intention Of Making Things Scriptural; (3) Stupid Kid’s Games Draw Customers; (4) Liberation Theology & Marxist Ideology; (5) Human Creeds & Statements of Faith.

Should “Grass Roots” Pol. Movements Address Local Churches of Christ : This is election year and I’m hearing that a pastor (denominational usage) is a coward if he doesn’t allow his church to have a requested political presentation from our grass root political movement. It never dawned on such that a church of Christ would be in scriptural agreement that such is not authorized as part of an assembly of the church. Where did personal conscience suddenly go? What happened to religious liberty? Read this study to understand why all the members of the local church are in agreement, and make no apologies for respecting the authorized work of the assemblies of the church.

INCLUDED:

1. Christ’s Kingdom is a SPIRITUAL Kingdom, Col. 1:13.

2. The Local Church With It’s Own Oversight & Collective Work.

3. Assemblies are the Collective Function of the particular Local “Body” as an Organization.

4. Some Scripturally Authorized Purposes for the Assemblies of the Local Church.

5. Christians as Individuals Participated in Government.

6. God did not give the Gospel to Civil Government.

7. A Civil or State Religion.

8. Concerning Political Movements & Organizations.

9. Man’s Ways are not God’s Ways (Isa. 55:8-9).

10. It is Not a Matter of Just Losing One’s Tax Exempt Status.

5:8; Eph. 6:10-13).

Baptism As Taught From The Bible   In this article an example of baptism in the first century is set in contrast with teaching from the Catholic Encyclopedia, "Baptism, Sacrament of." The explanation that the Catholic Encyclopedia gives simply does not equate with what the New Testament teaches about baptism being an immersion. The mode of baptism taught in the New Testament is immersion and not "pouring" or "SPRINKLING." Neither does the New Testament teach a blessing of the water before baptism! Above all the New Testament does not teach infant baptism.

Why not read this article to understand neither of these are authorized as an option for baptism.

Those who go on just emotions, or feelings, will go against sound doctrine and leave. Here are some applications that match Attendance with SOUND DOCTRINE.

How Can One Understand the Word of God? (A Brief Study of Scriptural Authority) : Most churches never speak out on the necessity of having “scriptural authority” for what one believes and practices. In fact, most are not willing to deal with the subject because of the lack of authority for things they are doing. Here is a brief study on how to establish scriptural authority by using Statements, Commands, Examples, and Necessary Inferences found in the Word of God. Each individual is confronted with the task of seeking the approval of God as set forth in the Scriptures, over the approval of men. Nor must one allow their feelings or emotions to take precedent over the requirements of God’s word (cf. Pr. 14:12). Your parents and family tradition are not the standard of religious authority (cf. Matt. 10:34-37). One’s conscience is not the standard for there are examples where one believed they were right when wrong (cf. Acts 26:9). The preacher is not the standard for the preacher must be preaching the Word (cf. 2 Tim. 4:1-5; Gal. 1:8-9). The elders are not the standard for the elders must be upholding the Word (Titus 1:9). Human creeds and confessions of faith written by men are found among FALSE STANDARDS used today, yet held in high esteem by men and institutions built by men.

Human Creeds and Statements of Faith Many believe that their church’s creed – often written long ago – is equal in authority to the New Testament scriptures. This article is written with the intent of showing that creeds and STATEMENTS OF FAITH often contain error. Many statements of faith are written to “attract” by stating social goals. Sadly, these are lacking in stating truthfully what is necessary for one to believe and do in order to be saved. Even the ancient Apostles’ Creed is not enough!

A Safe Deposit For My Treasures  Do you really want to go to heaven? This article contrasts the physical setbacks besetting those who suffered during the fires of 2003 with the eternal setbacks of not heeding Jesus instruction in Matt. 6:19-20. Far too many are overly anxious about thieves STEALING their earthly treasures. Why not refresh your mind by reading about heaven as a safe deposit for your treasures. You can read and understand that heaven is a place where there will be no more death, sorrow, crying, pain, curse or night -- just eternal day (Rev. 21:1-4, 21:25-22:5).

What You Can And Will Do In Christ:  This brief study should offer assurance to Christians that their efforts to serve God faithfully are attainable, as well as being greatly aided by others' prayers on their behalf. C. Strengthened for attaining all STEDFASTNESS and patience with joy, and D. Joyously giving thanks to the Father. Following is a "Check Your Spiritual Growth With Self-Test Questions" giving further emphasis to our growth and development into mature children of God. The stated "goal" of our efforts is seen in Philippians 1:10-11.

Eze 7:3 Now the end has come upon you, And I will send My anger against you; I will judge you according to your ways, And I will repay you for all your abominations.

I thought it would be good for the younger christians in the church here to see clearly the truth in these statements concerning Israel's provocation and rebellion against God -- and especially through their lust for idolatry:

*SEE THE TRUTH IN THESE STATEMENTS: •Deu 9:6 Therefore understand that the LORD your God is not giving you this good land to possess because of your righteousness, FOR YOU ARE A STIFF-NECKED PEOPLE.•Deu 9:7 "Remember! Do not forget how you provoked the LORD your God to wrath in the wilderness. From the day that you departed from the land of Egypt until you came to this place, you have been rebellious against the LORD.•Deu 9:24 You have been rebellious against the LORD from the day that I knew you.

Things Often Missing During Afflictions The applications in this brief study will deal with those who are in affliction.  Dear reader, you will notice that with some of these God has no pleasure. For others, they see God’s faithfulness during their afflictions. God’s word revives, STRENGTHENS and comforts during afflictions! Why not read this either for yourself or with a view to being able to help another.

The Foolishness In Forgetting God’s Word:  Trials should not cause us to forget God’s law! We can receive STRENGTH in remembering past trials we persevered in (Cf. Heb. 10:32-34). The one who perseveres does not shrink back! Why not read this article and acquaint yourself with what is happening when one forgets God’s law.

2:17; Heb. 10:24-27). You must know the DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE WORD “HOME” AND “HOUSE” AND “HOUSES” and the words “come together as a church” and “ASSEMBLING OF OURSELVES TOGETHER” and “IN THE CHURCH” - Read here for proper definitions that lead to proper applications of what it means to ASSEMBLE TOGETHER.

Notes: “spirit” (mind, mental or desire):  “…not ...of fear” (timidity, cowardice), “but of power” (*seen in believing and doing the Word, 2 Tim. 1:8, 2 Tim. 3:5 denied the power thus weak and unfit; Ja. 1:22 doers of the word);

What You Can And Will Do In Christ:  This brief study should offer assurance to Christians that their efforts to serve God faithfully are attainable, as well as being greatly aided by others' prayers on their behalf. C. Strengthened for attaining all stedfastness and patience with joy, and D. Joyously giving thanks to the Father. Following is a "Check Your Spiritual Growth With Self-Test Questions" giving further emphasis to our growth in knowledge and ability to discern both good and evil. To do this the Christian must get past carnality and the works of the flesh that make us dull of hearing and spiteful (*envy, STRIFE, divisions) of one another (I Cor. 3:1-3). The stated "goal" of our efforts is seen in Philippians 1:10-11.

The angry man stirs up STRIFE, and a furious man abounds in transgression (Prov. 29:22).

Let Us Get You A New Kind Of Preacher! Those full of carnality (works of the flesh) accuse the faithful unjustly with wicked intent, spread STRIFE with their mouths, and set an example of evil for others to imitate (Cf. 3 John 10-11). They have a goal, an objective, and will sacrifice the truth and brethren to achieve it! These are looking forward to and working towards division in order that they might have their own way, and that with the “kind of preaching” that lacks application and pleases the ungodly (cf. 2 Tim. 4:1-5). Understand that the longer the church postpones dealing with them scripturally the closer they get to their unscriptural goals (cf. Rev. 2:20). There is nothing more carnal, and full of the works of the flesh, that I can think of at this age in my life than brethren who work to stop applicable preaching and teaching. They will stop at nothing to get the “new kind” of preacher. Old warnings need to be issued! As in the past there will always be bigger churches somewhere ready to aid the pattern of apostasy and provide the “new kind” of teachers and preachers. That is how apostasy is able to continue. Brethren beware! It is quite possible that you know of such things happening among us.

109). This section tells you exactly what will happen to the wicked; (4) You will learn about the purpose of their traps they set for the righteous. These are those who continually stir up wars, STRIFES; (5) God overthrows the best of secret counsel (Ps. 64).

What To Tell Your Mate When They Are Guilty of Wrath Christians need to study and then be honest and make the right applications to one another, all family members, and especially with their own mates (Cf. I Th. 5:14). Read this article to understand how the STUBBORN and unrepentant heart obeys unrighteousness.

What Stubbornness Really Is The prophet Jeremiah had a lot to say about the STUBBORNESS of God’s people. He pulled no punches but stated plainly the carnality involved. The purpose of this study is to ensure that we understand the importance of obedience being commanded us. The seriousness of this study is seen in that the STUBBORN contend with God, are punished, and while being punished go yet onwards towards that point where iniquity is great, sins are numerous, and God’s punishment painfully serious!

A Read the Bible Story worth Telling The importance of reading the Bible is stressed along with appropriate applications concerning the blessings of reading it, hearing it and keeping it. Maturity only comes one way – in time with STUDY and APPLICATION (Heb. 5:12-14). This is not a commendation: “For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.” When you don’t STUDY this is where you are at. How do you know “another Jesus,” “another spirit,” or “another gospel” if you haven’t mastered the one and only one Christ gave? (2 Cor. 11:4; Gal. 1:6-9). There is this warning: If you could not understand the Bible you would not know the difference between human tradition, man’s so called spiritual wisdom, and God’s Word (Col. 2:8). With that in mind the article presents a conversation with a man who said that he is reading the Bible for himself for the first time in his life. Moreover, he’s seeing the differences between what man is willing to teach for the sake of human tradition, power, prestige, etc. and how the Bible really reads.

A Review of “Questions of Women’s roles…requires grace, humility” by Cana Moore (Part One) Part One: Here is an article concerning WOMEN’S ROLES in the church. It especially centers on the woman is not to USURP AUTHORITY over a man in I Tim. 2:12. She is to learn in silence with all SUBMISSION. Paul said: 1Ti. 2:11 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. 1Ti. 2:12  But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. I’ve got some things I want to say that I believe apply to some of the contexts in the article; the article should elicit thoughts of your own as well.

A Review of “Questions of Women’s roles…requires grace, humility” by Cana Moore (Part Two)  Part Two: Here is an article concerning WOMEN’S ROLES in the church.

Do Not Let Your Heart Envy Sinners  The purpose of this article is to emphasize the importance of enabling others to develop speech that correctly describes the sinner ---- and especially our children. Applications are made for this important question: If you can’t say the wicked are so what are some likely problem you will have? Young adults and older as well see worldly “SUCCESS” through eyes that desire: (a) recognition of being in company with someone considered important in various ways. It is easy to justify the wicked if I desire what they have — “He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both are abomination to the LORD” (Pr. 17:15); (b) desire wealth — this is the temptation of Prov. 1:13; (c) desire opportunities to meet the opposite sex, to be around money, cars, recreational vehicles etc.; (d) desire a fun time — time not viewed by sinners as something that must have as a primary allotment serving God and worshipping collectively with a local church.

Be Successful Where You Are Too often, I’m afraid, small churches are lacking in the duty of “liberality” (I Cor. 16:1-3). The article encourages local churches to be SUCCESSFUL in all things! Question: How is your local church’s liberality? Why not take time to read some of the important reminders for us to be good at imparting?

Don’t Thank The Sun, Thank God!  Old pagan beliefs and practices surfaced during the Christmas Holiday. In referring to the “SUN” in this title I am thinking of the winter solstice. One article I read stated the SUN was being thanked for its promise that light will prevail and another life-summer will eventually follow. What man sorely needs is to read how God offers salvation through His Son, Jesus Christ. Then men will see the folly of paganism with its rank idolatrous practices some of which have crept back into modern society.

Here is an excerpt on the SUPPORT of preachers: “Today brethren have chosen to put themselves in a Human Institution where they “know” they have no right to be supported by the local church, one or several, and we find them belaboring the point that they do not involve themselves as a Human Institution with any local church treasury. That of itself speaks volumes. Is this not clear evidence that they are not like the evangelistic efforts we read about in our New Testament? It is indeed!”“

Unwise Unsuspiciousness (Jer. 40:14)  At times is unwise not to be SUSPICIOUS. This is based upon Gedaliah’s mistake as recorded by Jeremiah. We see stupidity in the pattern presented by refusing to credit information given by all, and being indignant towards the informant who trying to help and accusing him of lying. “You liar!” You will often hear that when the evidence points to something one doesn’t want to believe. He should have listened.

Selected Newspaper Articles for 2013 These newspaper articles from 2013 include: (1) “Using ‘Christendom’ to Cover Religious Error”; (2) “The Ways of the Street Mugger”; (3) “Murders, Murderers, Victims”; (4) “Surely not a Hot Head” – emphasis is on being SWIFT TO HEAR, slow to speak, slow to wrath, and (5) “Surely not a Greedy Person.”

The List That Justifies The Ungodly  Using the instruction from Prov. 9:7-9 that says, “Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate you…” this article deals with the ungodly who have no real concern for the whole of God’s commandments and doing all He requires (cf. Ps. 119:160).  Points on reproofs are put with the Lord’s warning: “Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before SWINE, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you” (Matt. 7:6). These dogs and swine have no regard or use for instruction from God’s word, which is holy. Moreover, their mistreatment of one who gives applicable instruction from His word can be severe!

Stated goals for entreating are: 1.To be of the same mind, Phil.
